Hooking up Secondaries motor

As I posted I installed a Magnum Intake on my friends 02 SXT. Now I went to wire it and cant seem to get it to work. I am getting a good tach signal but I cannot figure out how to hook up the relay. I am only using an RPM switch and not WOT switch. I know it has been done this way but I cant figure it out. Also is the Red + on the magnum motor??
Ive read the howtos but im still stuck lol

Just to confirm, is it an RPM switch or an RPM window switch like in the .org sticky? Also, what are the labels for the wire colours on the RPM switch. If the labels aren't written on the case it'll be in the instrucitons.

Its the RPM switch. Its not a window switch. Its the MSD one like most people use. The instructions arent that great from summit

OK, that's one thing down. I could guess on the wire colours, but I don't want to. What I really want to know what each wire colour on the RPM swich does. It's pretty obvious black is going to be ground and red is going to be +12v. That leaves the yellow and the grey are the switched circuit, but I'd kinda like to know what they're labled before I draw up the connections. Most times it doesn't matter, but sometimes it does. Tell me what yellow and grey are and I can fill this in pretty quick for you.

Im sorry its the summit version of the MSD. Here is the link with instructions.

If it's the same as the MSD, then yellow is Normally Open, and gray is Normally Closed.
You'll only use one or the other, and it depends on how the switch works. On my switch, I have to use the gray wire (NC)...otherwise the butterfly's would be open between 3k-5k...instead of before and after.

Actually, I just double checked the summit spec sheet. I hate the wording on that, but it's how quicksilver described. You won't need to hook up the grey wire to ground.

One other question, Can 30, 86 and the RPM switch be hooked up to the same 12 volt?

Short answer is no.
I would be careful on where you choose to draw the power for #30 from as that's the +12v that's going to power the manifold motor. Stock in the R/T it has a 15A fuse for a reason. My suggestion for the #30 would be to draw that directly from the studed terminal from the engine compartment fuse box (pretty much straight off the battery), and stick a 15A inline fuse in there for safe measure. The #86 and the +12v for the RPM switch are both very low current draws and you can tap both of those together into the fuel pump relay, ASD relay, or anything else that's going to be running only when the engine is.

WOT switch is easy to add to that.

OK he hooked a meter to it and it gets 12v but I cant hear it open. I can touch the motor to the battery and hear it open and the motor is new. Got any ideas?

Get's 12v from what?

The #87 on the relay, but when he hooks the motor to the #87 you cant hear it open
EDIT\
Well we believe the relay maybe f'ed so we are trying that first. Ill post in 15 mins once we get a better one lol

If you're using 5 pole relay, there will be an #87a terminal as well. If you put it on that one it will work backwards, so be sure to put it on #87.

Check the RPM blocks, I know they were a PITA to set up on my friends. I can't remember if you had to set all the switches up to the RPM you wanted, or just the one. Also remember depending where your tach signal is coming from, the PRM set point may need to be halved.

Ya I got that working on it but it seems to not be working correctly. I got everything hooked up and technically it should be working but it wasnt. He is just gonna get another one.

2 points. One, if you're using the yellow wire, try using the grey wire instead. (or was it the other way around.) Second, I couldn't get mine working for almost a week, and finally I realized that the problem was not the tach or the manifold, but the relay I had bought. Just randomly got a bum relay from radio shack. Replaced it with an autozone SPST and was good to go. Just a simple on/off switch based on RPM. If I want to do the WOT part I can always just wire that in later with another relay inline to this one.

Relay was good and I even tryed another. The yellow and grey wire both didnt work. Also the yellow was only suppose to throw power when it hit the RPM and when I checked it with a meter it always had power.

Yellow doesn't throw power, it completes the ground.

Ok well this was giving out 12v lol Thats why I said just take it back.
