Problems
Hey guys, Ive been running into some problems with my 2000 neon, I had the oil light coming on all the time and I couldn't find out what the problem was. I ended up buying one of those haynes manuals and it helped a little bit. It seemed like my car was idling pretty low and rough, anyway I had replaced the air filter I had and it still did the same thing. the oil light still came on etc. I just had the oil changed a couple weeks ago and the levels are fine.
I just replaced the plugs and plug wires also...It runs alot better and keeps a pretty steady idle and everything....the oil light even stays off...but when the car warms up after about 8 miles it goes back to doing the same thing. the light comes on and the idle gets rough again....when it cools then it's fine....it never overheats or anything. never goes above the first line...i have no clue what to do and need your help guys....im also burning a quart and a half every two weeks...I drive about 60 miles a day...any help would be great guys!!! thanks!!!

pcv??? also, check all the hoses coming off the valve cover, make sure there are no cracks, leaks, breaks, etc... I thought the oil light was strickly for pressure. I know mine came on a few times in some hard right turns, and I found out I had low oil

hello, maybe i can present a different perspective.
I looked at your video. and you need to find out where all of that oil is going. Are you sure that you are actually "burning" the oil, ie black soot on the rear of your car or smokin out the cars behind you or have a fairly heavy leak. your video shows lots of flow on the oil pump case. but i cant see if its all down the underside of the car (as it drips it flies against the car as you drive) if its alot of oil on teh underside then its defiantly a leak. so check the gasket around the oil pump and check the main seal around the crankshaft... wait thats gonna be a PITA with the timing cover and all on...hmm
if you cant isolate it to an external leak then I would recommend the compression check as well. it may be time for a rebuild
so along those lines i was thinking. if you are burning that much oil then it could POSSIBLY be that the oil fouling out spark plugs causing lower / poor idle while idling but when you give it gas the coil gets more power and produces a more powerful spark to burn through it so to say. so you could try to pull your new plugs and see if they have a oil soot on them. do a search for pictures of plugs from engines that were burning oil and that will help.
But if this was causing your lower idle it would mean that your oil pump is not spinning enough to produce enough pressure and could be why your oil light is coming on intermittently. you never said if it goes off when you rev the engine up. get a mechanical guage on it and see what your actual oil pressure is... the needle is your friend!!!
hope that helps out a bit...
