4TH time now and this is ticking me off! HELP!

ok for the 4th time now I have replaced the motor mounts in my car since I have upgraded a few parts on the motor. Every time I get on it while racing or even passing on the interstate....I tear my motor mount inserts to pieces and rip them to shreds. This is becoming a very old issue for me and a very tiresome one at that. I need some help with this. Should I upgrade just the inserts or try something else. I am using mopar performance inserts. please let me know. this time it is so bad on the bottom mount that you can see the motor move about 3-4 inches either way while hitting the gas. and the vibration is horrid without the extra cushion on the motor.

Whoa. Is the main engine mount bolt in place on the passenger side? It sounds like maybe all that's holding the engine up on that side are the upper and lower torque struts.....that is definately NOT normal.

the upper one is fine right now, but the lower one is the torn one right now. The tranny mount and insert is ok for now too. I threw the car on the rack today and saw the rip in the lower insert on the passenger side.

Ok. Take the plug out of the passenger side wheel well and make sure there's a Torx T-55 bolt going through there. I'm worried maybe it's missing or broken...causing the engine to have to be carried completely by the upper and lower torque struts on the passenger side.

all bolts are there....remember these have been replace 4 times since January. That is when I had a few performance mods done and now since I have more torque....I have had this issue. It jumps off the line like a rocket.....but only when the inserts are new and not ripped.

how much torque could you possibly have in that thing? lol
no seriously tho, i'd try to pick up some firm filled motor mounts, i had some problems with stock mounts ripping too, i decided to go with a solid mount set up on the top torque arm and filled the rest with some construction urethane. It worked wonders.

I think something is out of alignment. Didnt u just have an accident?

:withstupid: Sounds like the whole engine is tweaked out of alignment to constantly tear them up like that. If everything checks out it sounds like it's time for Dogbone mounts.

yeah I was in an accident, but it was "suppose" to be fixed. they charged enough to fix it over all. But I am going to get the shop that did the mounts do do them again, but I think I will go with upgraded inserts this time. I already called them and told them about it and I told them they are responsible to replace them anyway and I will just pay the difference for some upgraded inserts. I did a few things to the engine but not many so I know it didn't increase torque that much...

Cam, injectors, plugs, wires, coil pack, crank scraper, dual oil filter, port and polished head, port and polished intake, stock air box(for now) with drop in K&N filter, lighter weight AC compressor pulley and new gator belts....and a couple of other small things that I feel I am fogeting. But I still know it isn't improved that much.

I still think that something is wrong besides it being "not alighned right". There is no way the engine should move enough to tear them up like that. I seriously think that your main bolt on the passenger side is broken. You won't be able to tell unless you take it out.

It's the bolt that goes through the hole that's at the very top of this picture..you can only see half the hole in this pic....

I will check it out this afternoon when I get to throw it up on the rack again. and we will see if it is or not. But you would think that they would notice that when replacing the mounts anyhow.

You mention inserts, are you using Prothane Race inserts yet???
If so I thing you need dogbones more than you know.

Double-check that trans mount and also think about filling it if the insert is not holing up good enough. Use very high durometer filing material.

changing to dog bones is a band aid fix for a serious problem. you shouldnt HAVE to change to anything aside from stock. There are alignment specs for the engine relative to the mounts. Theyre in a thread around here somewhere. If u were in an accident and had repairs on the frame, take that shit back and have them check it.

I was going to post the same thing as you did - I agree with OB also in that Dog bone mounts are not a fix, it is a band-aid - there is something else missing or screwed up that is making the engine move so much/enough to tear motor mounts. Mounts should only wear with LOTS of time not when you get on it/race/etc... Check that torx bolt (it is about 6 inches long) and make sure that puppy is still in there, not broke, etc. I would gather that is your problem - IF NOT - then your frame is tweaked and your car is scrap metal. Actually, that last part is meerly a guess, could be a number of things. ;)

using stock inserts...thought about aftermarket, but hanging on for now. the car does have some get up and go now with the mods listed above, but still I don't see it causing this. I am thinking like the rest of you guys...i think the motor is tweaked in there....but I can't afford it to be totaled now that I have all this time into it getting to the point it is. if a motor is getting pulled the 2.4 is going in.....plain and simple!
