engine questions

Post by playboy2k4 » Sun Apr 29, 2007 10:36 am

Is anybody using ARP head studs? I'm having a problem when I torque them down to book specs the 4 outside fasteners aren't down far enough. They're only on a little under 1/4 of the way. But there torqued down to book specs. I just don't know if I should trust it. I'm also using a head shim with 2 head gaskets so I'm pretty sure that the reason for it but I have to use the shim as my head was shaved down too much from the machine shop. also I need a walk through on installing a timing belt and doing timing so that the car runs right when I crank it up. Thanks for any and all the help that I recieve on this.

I'm going to pick up my ARPs this week once I get my head back. I'll let you know what my results and findings are for this as well.

are they all the same height? some studs on certain motors stick out further than others, but its usually due to their taller overall size.

The ARP headstud kit comes with 4 short studs and 6 long ones. Its the 4 short ones that I can't get threaded all the way down

I picked up my set today. I opened the box and measured them with the stock bolts. Each one is the same when it comes to positioning. The 6 inner bolts are the longer ones and the 4 outter ones are the shorter of the group. I can't really gauge how deep they go yet because I still don't have my head back :cussing:. Once I get my head back, I'll post pics and results. Looks like they may have shaved a little to much off possibly. I'll have pics up if I can find my camera...I keep losing that damn thing
