Factory crank ballance

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Factory crank ballance

Post by turbodudey » Sat May 26, 2007 1:01 pm

I just got my block, crank shaft, pistons, rods, and flywheel back from the machine shop, and as it turns out, the crank shaft was already perfectly ballanced from the factory. The JE forged pistons, and Eagle rods were also perfectly ballanced from the factory as well.

I was kind of surprised that the crank was ballanced so well from the factory. I guess that's a good thing though.

Has anyone else who's had their crank ballanced observed this? Or is my car just "special"?

I saw something on TV (Like Speed channel, or something) talking about machining your car, balancing, blue printing, etc, and they said that MOST cars cranks are pretty well balanced from the factory... as for perfect, may be that it is just a special case? Or perhaps the 02 neon engines were just better built? I thought seriously about doing the same thing with my crankshaft one day, but perhaps I will P&P the head and intake first

on a side note, how long till you get her back up and running?? and is the car is still in st. joe, yeah? Dave said (I think) that it is sitting in your alls church? ;) :D

Lewis wasn't just being lazy was he? It's kind of hard to believe that the rods and pistons were "perfect" too. Everyone that I know of that has used Eagle rods was able to balance them a bit better....

All cars have slight variances, especially in precisely machined parts; you might have just got a good one (or maybe just a good crank). Then again, maybe all of our motors are machined well from the factory. There's no way theyre all perfect, but I wouldnt be surprised if the majority are pretty well built.

I know for our neon's our blocks and interals are better factory then most would think. I've heard many say the same as you tho I don't know about "perfect".

Its my understanding that its the ports, intake and exhaust manys that is what robs our neons the most.

Well then im lucky as well. I had to have my crank polished(lmfo) because it was scored from bad berings in the junk motor i bought, however once polished it was balenced really well also. as far as the pistons and rods, my machinist said that JE pistons are the best for a reason... he said all were balenced. just like the rods so yea i had good luck with the block and crank as well!

good luck with the build!

Yes. it's still at my church in St. Joe. :) I may need to move it soon though, becasue they might need part of the room it's in for VBS in a couple weeks.

The only things I'm waiting on now are the head, and wheels. The head is at LoneWolf Performance in Wichita, I'm hoping it will be done in just a couple more weeks.

I don't have any wheels at all right now, because the SRT-4 wheels that were on my car are now on my dad's caravan. :) The 5zigens I bought are on a sailboat somewhere between Japan and here. They should arrive in a couple weeks as well.

So... best guess... 4 weeks. Provided I get the rest of the parts on schedule, I think I can have it back together in about a month. Sigh... I hate waiting.
