pcv rerouting...

Hey guys, not sure if this belongs in engine, or turbo but im sure the mods will get it to where it belongs!

Anyway So I was sitting looking at my engine the other day (oh btw my afx race came in from guess who 5 months after i ordered it and before i knew much about MS) wanting to design a cold air intake for my turbo application. As you guys know i have the Hahn ST2 turbo with the s16g unit. I was thinking about an SRT cold air, but the turbo sits way lower then where the SRT unit does. so i dont think it will work and i will have to build my own.

But i noticed that on the SRT's CAI's the pcv tube goes into the intake kinda next to the battery on the engines side. where our hose would go into the intake.

1.Has anyone tried to Run the pcv strait into the intake like say an SRT?
2.and then use the vacuum port on the intake for something else?

3. Would the constant vacuum be better for the pcv verses the vacuum / boost it gets from the hose coming from the manifold

4. (hold on last one...lol) Is the port on the SRT intake Higher than the pcv valve possibly helping the engine from oil puking (as i have a magnum head swap)

let me know what you guys thing and especially if anyone else has tried it. learn from someone else if i can vs reproducing someone else's mistakes if you know what i mean.

See my thread. The PCV does not run straight to the intake, that wouldn't be smart, it goes to the intake manifold.

I guess i should have worded it better...

The stock line goes into the intake manifold. i am looking to place it from the manifold into the intake itself using say a similar location as the SRT's

but i saw the other threads and what darrell cox said. It Makes sence to keep vacuum in the engine case at all times so i think i will be rerouting my PCV line from the intake manifold to the Intake its self using the catch can method that was on the SRT board. I can use the vacuum port for something else then.

He recommends a catch can between the CAI and the breather side of the valve cover.

He also recommends a catch can in between the PCV and the intake manifold.

I don't think you can just take a line from the intake manifold to the CAI this eliminating the PCV system, is that what youa re trying to do?

A catch can with two inlets would allow this to work well and eliminate the need for two. Someone should fab one!

na what im really trying to do is just fabricate a cold air intake that resembles an SRT intake. Like i said earlier my turbo sits lower than a standard SRT turbo so i cant just use an SRT model.

But i was thinking while i was at it, the hard pipe that connects to my stock TB has a special bracket that mates up to the TB meaning i would have to come up with a new way of rigging up my BOV because the flange is welded on this bracket as well. (also why i havent installed my 60mm tb yet) What i was thinking was connect the TB strait to the intake manifold then use a strait pipe with the type-h flange on it, then the 90 degree down to my IC. however if i do this i will loose the hardpipe between my TB and my IC that has my vacuum reference lines. meaning that I would have to Tap new holes in the intake manifold for this to work.

what i was thinking is that "if" the SRT takes its PCV vacuum from the intake its self vs the manifold then why wouldnt it work for the 2.0l Then i can use the port that the pcv hose used to go to, T it and get my vacuum/boost reference lines there. and i wouldnt have to tap my intake manifold.

not so much elimitate it but have it find another source for vacuum. and if its in the intake it would always be vacuum vs pressure insinde the intake manifold when the turbo is making boost. I dont know much about the layout of the 2.4l so thats why im asking if that is the way it actually works or not.

The 2.4 and the 2.0 engine are diffrent.

i'm gathering that your turboed your 2.0

The 2.0's "ez-breather" outlet is on the back, and the pcv is on the right of the valve cover.

The 2.4's "ez-breather" is on the right of the valve cover, similar to were the pcv is on the 2.0's is located. The 2.4's pcv is actually the the left and on top of the valve cover.

The pcv on either vehivle connects to the intake manifold, and the "ez-breather" which doesn't do anything but give a continous amount of fresh air into the engine should either have its own smaller filter, or be hooked into the intake pipe.

i hope this helps you out.

Cause on the 2.0 you shouldn't hook up the pcv to the intake pipe, rather the intake manifold.

and that "ez-breather" inlet on the back would imo always have it's own filter.

ok, cool. Thats why i was asking if that was the PCV on the right like the 2.0l. like i said, just thinking out loud i guess before i start building this thing. I have 0 experiance with the 2.4 srt engine and the best way to find out is to ask!

so with both PCV on both engines going into the intake manifold im not going to mess with it and just figure something else out. not that big of a deal. thanks anyway
