Understanding Diagnostic Trouble Codes
Not sure if something like this is posted yet, but this may be helpful reading OBD II codes on any vehicle. Knowing this information can help if you don't have access to the list provided here on the forum, or access to a real scan tool.
Stonebender's guide to OBD II DTC's
If you haven't noticed, all OBD II codes are five digits. This guide will break down what each digit means to help you troubleshoot your vehicle.
First Digit- The first digit is always a letter. It identifies which control system shows a malfunction.
B = Body
C = Chassis
P = Powertrain
U = Network
Second Digit- The second through fifth digits are always numbers. The second digit identifies a generic or OEM specific code.
0 = Generic (SAE - All OEM's)
1 = OEM Specific
Third Digit- Indicates which system is at fault.
1 = Air/Fuel Control Systems
2 = Fuel System (i.e. Injectors)
3 = Ignition System/Misfire
4 = Auxiliary Emission Controls (i.e. EGR, AIR, CAT, EVAP)
5 = Vehicle Speed/Idle Control and Auxiliary Inputs
6 = Computer Systems (PCM or CAN)
7 = Transmission or Transaxle
8 = Transmission or Transaxle
Fourth and Fifth Digits- Usually viewed together, and often relate to an older OBD I code. This is the specific fault designation.
Hope this helps. Feel free to post questions or any additional information. Or merge this with the other OBD code thread.

Nice. What's it take to pull the code? Laptop + software? Serial connection?

Put your key in at the OFF position, from there go - ON - OFF - ON - OFF - ON without starting the engine at the 3rd position. This will bring up the code(s) in a sequence like this:
P1684, - - - - - , P0134, - - - - - , P0132, - - - - - , DONE

Oh wow, that's way too easy! Don't most cars require a computer diagnostic? Go Dodge.

Most OBDII cars have it right above the drivers feet. I spent some money on a decent one made by Actron that can read/erase codes, show freeze frame data and came with a program for your PC to upgrade the reader and can tell you more specific information about the code.
