INDY valves(requires 1gn retainers) and crane springs(needed with the crane 14)

little tip i found out the hard way... don't fuck with the valve guides.

does mopar make stainless steel valves? if so go for it... as far as retainers goes. when you do a build you don't NEED to replace them, but they're dirt cheap and it's better if you do

As far as strength I haven't heard of problems with the OEM's the titanium may be lighter, but that only really matters at the higher rpm's to prevent valve float. Not sure if there is a huge weight diference there...

well i dont psh it past 6k rpm so im just gonna hit up some crane ones. I might aswell get the crane springs and the retainers.. i dont think im gonna go for the titanium ones. For my purpose there overkill i beleive

i was also reading on crane that the 14 grind requires high comp. pistons, aftermarket ecm..... but i hear peoplerunning this cam all the time with the stock bottem end?

First of all you don't need the Crane valve springs for the 14, Magnum springs work just fine. Secondly, when retailers say that a cam "requires" other mods, they are kind of lying. High compression, performance ECU, etc...none of that is required for the cam to work just fine. You just won't get as much out of the cam, because your restrictions will be elsewhere.

You just said you're not going to push it past 6K RPM....if that is honestly true, don't get the 14. It starts coming on good and making a noticeable difference around 5K and pulls all the way to nearly 8K. Cutting it off at 6 is a waste. For running nitrous and staying in the stock rpm range, I would go with the Comp 400, the Comp 200 or the Crane 12...in that order.

If you're doing the headwork yourself and you've never done it before, don't try to do a valve job and recut the seats. Which, if you don't do that, then you'll stay with stock sized valves, and there is no need to spend money on indy's, just use the ones that are with the head. If you have someone else do a good valve job and go 1mm oversized, then you'll want to get the indy's in the correct size.

Idle's like stock, just a bit meaner tone. No lope, except for every once in a while on startup before the computer evens everything out.

Why do you need new retainers? Just curious...if the head has a complete set, just use those. Just replace the valve springs only. I repeat, only the valve springs. Not the valves, not the valve locks, not the retainers.

comp 400 cam is very streetable and the gains are very noticable... I popped in my cam with most of the work being done by yours truely above (Dave) and noticed a huge difference from get go - only mods I had prior to it were a CAI and UDP... since then I have added some stuff like LTH, cat delete, 2.5" pipes, and 60mm tb, and the car has awakened considerably.

The Magnum springs come w/new retainers, IIRC, all included in the price. unless that's changed... Just ask first before you order. No need for 16 extra retainers.

good point ill definatly look into that with the springs and retainers. Otherwise quicksilvr, ill just go with what u said and reuse the old. Illl give them a visual thou first. Idle ok cool, cause i was listening to the crane 14 and it has a lope to it. nice thou. but i agree with the comp400 i have heard nothing bad about it. Thanks for the help. Im going to do a project log on this head build. So check in every once and a while to see how im doing lol.
