Timing Belt Brands?

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

There is nothing like the learning experience that you get from doing something like this yourself. It is how I learned what I know. That said, if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, or have someone with you/near you to fall back on for help, it can be a nightmare the first time...especially if this is your only ride.

Being at the mercy of a shop that could take you for more than they should is never a good thing. I personally would rather get a factory service manual, some quality hand tools, a good jack and stands, and go at it. You will be surprised once the dust has settled at 1) how bad it wasn't, 2) how much you learned from the experience, and 3) how is it that people charge as much as they do for something that wasn't all that hard to start with.

Just some food for thought....
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

O I know what you mean, I replaced my front rotors and pads all by myself, I mean nothing completely major only paid a fraction of what a auto place would have charged, but I'll look in to the factory service manual are you talking about the one from MP?
Heh.

Maybe...if by "MP" you mean Chrysler, than yes. Nothing can touch the Chrysler service manual for the most complete information available for working on your car. If by "MP" you mean the Mopar Performance Neon Bible, then not so much. While it does have some great information, it doesn't go into the detail the FSM does.

Nope Call: (800) 890-4038 or Fax: (440) 572-0815 The dealers generally don't sell them. Be prepared to shell out $100 plus shipping. May be more it's been a few years since I ordered mine. The distribution center is in Strongsville, Ohio. Or if you're REALLY lucky you may find one for your model year on Ebay. You can only get model year specific manuals from DCX. Yes it ain't cheap, but the info will pay for itself, if you just succeed at one repair vs going to a shop or dealer. I would search ebay first, I have seen them on there.

There Ya go. That's not a bad deal.

You can go to the dealer, or order online directly ( I have the address at work...I'll give it to you tomorrow), or check e-bay, amazon, etc for people selling used ones (happens sometimes)

They aren't cheap...for an '03 book expect to pay $85-$100. You can order the same manual on CD for a lot less however.

I was going off of Dimas's request. If you have a 2001 you'll need the '01 fsm, they only cover one model year in paperback anyway... I have the '01 but i may still need it....

Here's a link to the 2000 factory service manual, download it and save it while you can. They had 2004 also but that link is not working anymore.

A lot of the stuff is the same on 2nd gens so even if you don't have a 2000, much of the info in the manual is still useful.

Werd, there are some differences in the engine management for the 2000's but everything else should be the same as far as body and most of the wiring.
