PCM = POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE
The PCM receives input signals from various switches and sensors that are referred to as PCM Inputs. Based on these inputs, the PCM adjusts various engine, transmission, and vehicle operations through devices that are referred to as PCM Outputs

Neons don't have a distributor.

Yes, the PCM controls the ignition, so it could cause problems if something is wrong with it.

If it's not sparking it would be a COLD NEON.

ENGINE WILL NOT START:

1. Weak battery: Test battery. Charge or replace
as necessary.

2. Corroded or loose battery connections: Clean and tighten battery connections. Apply a coat of light mineral grease to terminals.

3. Faulty starter: Test starting system.

4. Faulty coil(s) or control unit: Test and replace as needed.

5. Incorrect spark plug gap.

6. Contamination in fuel system: Clean system and replace fuel
filter.

7. Faulty fuel pump: Test fuel pump and replace as
needed.

8. Incorrect engine timing: Check for a skipped timing
belt/chain.
These are from the factory service manual.

give us more information, does the engine turn-over but not start, do you hear the fuel pump engaging (making a noise when you turn on the switch). is it completely dead ? do your dash-lights come on?

as i said, more info will help the people over here help you. it could be anything really ...

by the way, since you swapped your engine (as you indicated in the other thread), you should go over all your connections and make sure everything is plugged.

is your car and automatic, or manual, and is the donor vehicle manual or automatic (this makes a difference if you swapped the pcm also) ........

keep all you questions in one thread buddy, it makes it easier for people to follow up on the problem....

good luck, and give us more info

spark plugs are pre-gaped

starter works

my car is and automatic just like the donor

battery is strong!

as i said before,i checked all my connect's more then twice, there connected.

fuel pump comes on,i hear it when i turn the key

when i bought the motor from this junk yard,it was in the donor car and it started......started no problems, so timing belt cant be off,
in less its different for every dodge neon

never had any problem with my pcm before, why should i change it?
are suspose to change it every motor swap?

let me ask this question, this one bugs me bad,
is there a such thing as different wiring harnesses? is every 2000 dodge neon harnesss the same,no matter where the car came from?

Just as a note preston75052, if you are going to post the same things in this thread that you are PM'ing me, let me respond here instead of PM's. It is harder to reply in PM since I am at work.

Thanks.

No SKIM there, IIRC that wasn't available till 2001 as an option. (Assuming his is a 2000) havn't read the other thread. I read before that someone got the cam position sensor and the coil connectors swapped, but I dont know if the '00 coil connectors are the same as 1gn or the rest of the 2gn's I know the IAC' are diffrent tho. worth a look...
Edit: the PCM may still need to stay with the car as the VIN has to match, IIRC. but don't hold me to it.

where would it be locationed on the motor?

It's not on the motor, it is by the radiator behind the drivers side headlight. Two gray connectors. You should start by keying on three times don't engage the starter, just to the on position. your odometer should give codes, there is a sticky at the top of this section for codes. If there aren't any codes it will say "done"

well the problem is this there,i just by pass the ignition by running a toggle switch to my starter and to my batter, drilled a hole in the lower part of my dash and mounted it there.now all i got to do is turn my key to on position and flip the toggle switch and starts rite up.i think thier something wrong with my ignition the way i got to turn my key,its not rite,i got to trun it so hard to get it to doing anything, thats before the toggle switch though.

im sticking around,i kinda like this site, people on here seen to be pretty cool,i can learn alot on this.......lol and my wife will hate me now......lol thanks for everything!!!!!!!!!!!!
