Tune-up?

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Tune-up?

Post by Xtian » Tue Mar 25, 2008 12:56 am

Okay so I got the mopar spark plug wires and my question is if they are going to work well with any kind of spark plugs and what type of oil do I need so I don't have to worry about the engine for right now.
I just went to the 100K miles.
Thanks a lot!

Any plugs will work, 'cept platinums. Any good quality oil will do, The next worry you have is the timing belt/water pump/tensioners/seals issue as you're close to the 105,000 mark if that stuff is done already then disreguard! if not be prepared for sticker shock. There is a reason alot of neons in that mileage range are for sale. If you have a shop do all the work you're looking at the $600 plus price range.

Yes, but after that one is good for another 100K before the job cycles around again on the maintenance schedule. :D

Forgive me if I'm thread jacking.
I'm right at the 105k mark right now :beatstick: I really don't want to fork out a ton of money on all of this... What seals are needing to be replaced exactly? Also, how do I find out if my neon (01 ACR) has a hydraulic or manual tensioner? I think there's a big price difference between the two...

The '04 tesioner will work and is the cheaper option.

This is a pretty good link. Use the search on here as well.

:withstupid:

Go with the manual tensioner. That's what I'm going to run as well.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Cam seal and the crank seal.

When I was gathering up the parts I provided the VIN to a parts guy at a dealership who did the lookup and told me my car had the hydraulic tensioner.

I decided it was a safer bet to wait until it was apart... as it turned out it was hydraulic. I replaced it with another hydraulic... and yes there is a huge price difference.
