ECM reset is "magic".

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

ECM reset is "magic".

Post by TN.Frank » Mon Mar 31, 2008 1:53 pm

I finally got to kick it in the butt for the first time since I reset my ECM on Saturday and WOW, what a difference. I guess the fuel maps and stuff have been reset by the NGC system because for the first time since I've got the car I was able to hit 6500 rpm and I felt that little engine pulling all the way. Normally I'd only go to 6K rpm becaue the pull would start to drop off so I'd shift but now it's got balls all the way to 6500. Big question, can an other wise stock 2.0L sustain that kind of rpm without doing any damage? Not that I plan on running it that hard all the time but I don't want to throw a rod or mess anything up if it'll just not take it.
Anyway, just wanted to post the "Good News" to ya'll. Talk to ya' later.

Stock, I used to run mine all the way up to the rev limiter all the time while autocrossing. The stock bottom end of mine ran great all the way up to 7300. I never spun it any higher just because I wasn't confident in the valvetrain above that, but there's no good reason a stock bottom end wouldn't hold together all the way up over 8000RPM if the head was set up to handle the speed.

So I should be ok at 6500 rpm, that's great, thanks.

I run mine at, near, and off the rev limiter frequently enough as well. Even with all the km's on the car it's not a big deal.

I too have taken the car up to the rev limiter and bounced off a few times.

Since I don't drive it much anymore I like to wind it out in 1st and 2nd (if possible) on the highway on ramps.

I don't think I've ever had a car up to 6500 rpm before this one. Most of what I've owned were V8's that were for the most part had stock internals so hitting 5K rpm was a lot for em', LOL. I did have my Honda Magna up to 10.5K rpm though, that was a little 750cc screamer.

Makes you really appreciate the engine builders in NASCAR, they push those engines at 8500-9000 rpm for 400-500 miles almost non-stop.

yup, if I hit the lotto, I'd drop 180,000 one one of those cars in a heartbeat.
