Burning Oil?
Burning Oil?
I just had the oil changed and it was short a quart of oil. Any ideas where it all went? Is it burning, or going somewhere it shouldn't? I haven't owned the neon that long, but 1 quart after just 5k miles seems a little much.

How much was in your oil filter?
How long did you let it drain out?
How much of an agle was the car on when draining?
How did you measure the used oil?
All these things can add up rather quickly. I used to go through about 1/4 of a quart between changes but I always ran it hard. Vehicle in question was a 2k2 R/T just fyi.

Actually, 1qt in 5000 miles isn't too bad and is almost normal.
It's a safe bet that there is a nice little pool of oil in your intake manifold. It's a common problem on 2gn neons.

Unfortunately 1 quart between oil changes is within the acceptable limits. (As in if it was new and you wanted it fixed under warranty)It is prolly getting into your intake manifold via the PCV system. Do a search for catch can, and you will see what i'm saying. The easiest way to check is disconnect your throttle body and bellows tube (rubber accordian lookin' thing) from the manifold, and look in there with a flashlight. I will almost guarantee you will find a pond of oil in there. Also check at the end of your cyl. head by the battery, the cam position sensors are known to leak. The cam seal on the other end will leak too, if your mileage is getting up there.

Probably shouldn't listen to anything your penis says, that guy's a dick.
Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.Patience, of course, is a very powerful weapon, but sometimes I start to regret that it is not a firearm.

Don't forget mileage and how you drive the car also plays a big part in how much oil burns or disappears in our cars as well. My car has 148,202 miles on it now and on average I go through 1/2-1 qt. between oil changes. Then again I'm an 'aggressive driver' too
