a/c help please

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

a/c help please

Post by 00neon00 » Mon Apr 28, 2008 10:45 pm

i have a 2000 , the problem im having is with the compressor clutch not engaging. I turn the hvac knob to the blue a/c and the rad fan kicks on but not the compressor. Ive jumpered both the low pressure switch & high pressure switch and both end up just kicking the rad fan back on without the a/c clutch. Also swapped the relays in the brain still nothing. Fuses all check out. Anything else i could check? thanks guys

Unhook the connector at the clutch and check for voltage there. A test light should suffice. If it's illuminated when the fan kicks on the coil in the a/c cluctch may be toast. If not lighting then you will have to trace the problem till you find where the power is failing to get to the next step. The a/c relay should be clicking in the PDC. also IIRC in the diagram there is a diode in the clutch circuit. If I remember tomorrow I'll try to scan the wiring diagram. It will be for an '01 tho.

OK, this is the pin out for the PDC. Maybe it can be stickied. The plastic casting doesn't have these numbers on it. the wiring diagrams refer to the pin numbers in the PDC, but without the chart they're useless.

thanks demons, i traced the break in power to the connector thats just above the clutch, thought it was actual connector at 1st but looked nice and clean when separated. Turned out the wire actually was broken inside the plug itself ,(think it was the green 1) no idea how it could actually break there since its encased in the rubber gromet/plug thingy which wouldnt allow it to see any stress whatsoever. Probably just a bad solder/crimp from the factory i assume.

Are these diagrams different for 2004 models?

Pretty Much the same. 8W-42-2 doesn't show the diode tho. that is about the only change I could see at a quick glance.

occasional demon ....ive read like 5 of the a/c posts getting ready to tear into mine this weekend. You should just right a how to or a sticky cause youre on point with the info. something like an order to start to track the problem.
