Downpipe??

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Downpipe??

Post by 04_yelneon » Thu May 15, 2008 11:01 pm

Whats the diiference between a obx style downpipe and the stock downpipe? Im still doing some research and what not to find out which is a good setup for me right now. I dont want to get a whole obx style header and downpipe if theres really no difference in the stock one. I can just go get a pace setter header and bolt it to the stock downpipe.

But is there any performance difference in the downpipes? Im running pretty much stock. I have a srt style exhaust and cold air. Maybe a cam down the road but thats it. Nothing major.

I really dont have the dough right now for the long tube header. Iv been recomended to get that one but kinda out of my $$$ range.

I would rather ask stupid questions like such then waste money. Thanks guys...

The stock downpipe has a cat, the OBX one doesn't.

From my understanding of your question, the difference would be the OEM down pipe has a catalytic converter.

I put a magnaflow highflow cat on there for emissions. So other then that, thats the only difference? Then il jus get a header and keep the stock downpipe. There isnt any diameter difference though?

There likely is a size differance, but I wouldn't know exactly what it is.

as far as I know isnt it 2.5? isnt that the stock diameter size for the whole exhaust? Or is the downpipe diameter smaller then right after the cat it gets bigger? My high flow cat is 2.5 on both sides. im assuming the downpipe is the same. I could be wrong. I just bought the cat and had my local muffler shop pu it on.

2"/2.25" is stock size. I think the Dyno Max cat back is 2.5". They prolly slipped the OEM pipe inside the highflow cat's pipe. My '01 is 2.25 out of the cat, then necks down to 2" and 1.875" at the muffler outlet. Yes I need to upgrade! Most '02-up are 2.25 all the way
