ok guys so i know my car has more left it her but the govener thing kicks me down every time i hit 120 mph i live in az so going to phx every other weekend is fun butnot when it slams me back down to 75 to 80 mph. so how do i remove it if possible is it in the ecu itself or is it mechanical???? and if is is in the ecu i do plan and doing a tranny swap reall soon so i will need to find a complete list of parts needed for hat but will post that later on. well hope to here from you guys soon.

It is an electronic speed limiter that is in the computer. The only way to defeat it is to get an aftermarket stand alone unit. There are no performance plug and play computers for 03+ neons.

I guess I'm glad I'm in Maryland, if your cruising at 120mph. Please slow down, your only endangering yourself and everyone else one the road. Your also setting yourself up to lose your license or land yourself in jail when you get caught.

Not to nitpick, but the limiter is set at 118 mph. It is there because the tires your car came with are only rated to that speed.

Kinda stupid, but that's federal mandates for ya

well i dont have stock tires of course but i was wandering since i am going to be doing a tranny swap soon with the new ecu wich ecu should i use that will let me go a little faster. and for the safety guys on here i only go that fast when alone and no one is in front of my the highway is seperated from the otherhalf that is going the other way for about 70 of the 97 miles trip and the seperated by a mountain.

You CAN'T go any faster unless you use a standalone. In which case you will have to tune every aspect of the computer. There is no OEM plug and play replacement.

That is the only way to go faster, but I doubt a non-SRT can go too much faster than that when limited by drag.

Justify it all you want, its still wrong.

ok well all i want my car to do is to top out at 140 now doesn't the rt top out at 140 or no?? just trying to remember wich one it is that the speedo goes to 140

The R/T's and ACR's have 140mph speedos. IIRC, only the ACR has no speed limiter.

Just so you know...a Neon even with some mods (intake, exhaust) will be aerodynamically limited to about 130 mph.

thats fine so with the new ecu when i do a tranny swap will hat work or do i actually have to get the r/t motor too

Good question. I have no idea.

My R/T seems to be electronically limited to 128. Got it up to 135 going downhill once but something kicked in and dropped me back down. Scared the crap out of me, too.

There literally would be no point in going through the trouble in searching for a R/T computer or much less buying one from the dealer just to go 10 mph faster..if that.

If you actually want to go faster than say 120mph then you might as well put the tranny swap on hold and do a full SRT engine/tranny swap, then you might get somewhere.

If all you are looking to do is change the computer to raise the limiter, then do a manual trans swap and install the computer. The PCM will have the inputs for the manifold valve that you don't have, so I don't know if that would cause a CEL or not.

You may run into complications depending on how you are going to go about this. If you are looking to get a brand new computer, then price will be an issue. $767.00 for a new one, $565.00 for a reman. Also, the reman PCM is a generic module, meaning that it needs to have all of the programing loaded into it by the dealer. Figure that expense in as well.

If you want to go the used route, you need to have the dealer program the immobilizer number for your car into it.

After all that....are you sure it's worth it?

I've heard from 03NeonRT that his can go up to 138 but then the gears don't have anything left in them. We've yet to test this theory, but hopefully will be doing so, soon.

Just because it says 140 on the speedometer doesn't mean its actually going to be able to reach 140...on a stock car that is

Swap the cluster and get really small tires.

138 the acr and R/T pcm is the same. You could unplug the VSS that may defeate the speed limiter however you would have no speedo/odo

ell guys i would of traded her in a long ass time ago but no dealer or private seller has an srt-4 for sale. and so my cunclusion is that i get a r/t ecu do the tranny swap and all and that will raise the top speed and allow me do do alot moe with other mods later done the road????? correct me if im wrong. the only reason i want to do this is for power reason for the future cuz now i am doing a tranny swap later down the road i can get another motor that io can build from scratch and then drop her in. well let me know your opinions guys

I mean if you want to do something like that its on you, I'm sure you can find a bunch of srt's on autotrader or even craigslist for that matter and other forums. What is your obsession with going so fast? If thats what you want your best bet is to get an Srt-4. And also you technically won't be able to get a lot with these other mods if you get an NGC 03-05 r/t computer, maybe something earlier than that, but like dante said is it still worth it? I still wouldn't do it, So lemme ask you sumthin are you lookin to make your car all motor or a track car??

An '01-'02 pcm won't work with the NGC engine crank sensor. He would have to find a donor car and swap the engine and wiring out to get it to work, or figurue out what wires need replaced for the harness to work with the older setup. then depending where he is located it will never pass emissions, not to mention be illegal for street use. EPA only allows same year or newer engines to be installed. Unless it in no way affects the emmisions system. Defeating the VSS is prolly the only way, and I couldn't tell you for sure the car wouldn't go into limp mode without it. Don't know if NGC is that picky. But your best bet is to accept the fact that Big Brother has :owned: you on this one. If you want to drive that fast for extended periods of time, pony up and get a car that can handle it safer than a tin can.

NGC R/Ts actualy respond pretty well to mods seeing as they keep the 9.8:1 compression. The lower compression in my mind is the reason NGC cars dont respond well.

Sustained speeds in excess of 120 mph is just plain retarded and dangerous, even if there's no one in front of you. All it takes is a pot hole or road buckle to kill your ass.

Why exactly do you need to get somewhere so quickly?

Oh yeah, have fun with the horrible gas mileage. Low powered motor trying to fight aerodynamic drag outside of the powerband ftmfl.

ok so then top speed isn't the biggest thing for me any more . so what is going to be my best route for and mods i do besides doing a swap to srt-4, the reason why i don't want to do a srt-4 swap is cuz i'm saving for one:) but at the time being i only got this. more opinions now but in a different direction lol this is really helping me guys base my direction with this car....

well, if you plan to do a SRT-4 swap in the future, I would not do any engine mods as of now. There is no point in dumping money into an engine that you are going to throw to the side after a while. I suggest doings tome suspension or exterior upgrades in the meantime; or just save all the money you would use and put it toward your SRT swap.

And stop driving 120 MPH, its incredibly stupid.

um if you're gonna save for an srt, why mod an se?

i'm not swaping the motor for an srt-4 just saving for a down payment type of deal with my bank but in the mean time i have this se that i want to mod so when it goes to my younger brother he will have something nice to drive, he wants me to mod it before he gets it cuz he doesn't really like to do the whole mechanical type stuff. he just like driving it and as i said before i don't drive at 120 all the time..... so please enough on the speeding thing
