ok so it hasnt even been 700 miles since my last oil change and i checked my oil the other day and only like 3 millimeters of oil was on the dip stick....so i checked the outside of the engine while i had it on the lift and no external oil leaks....so im thinking either rings or valve steams seals....which would you guys go for the best bet....its seen alot of high rpms....and if you dont think its thoes 2 things...then what? lol thanks guys! oh and its got 84,700 on it.

Check inside of your intake manifold for a pool of oil. If there is one there then you need a catch can to keep it out of there.

If the engine has been to high rpm's and has stayed there with your foot off the gas there is a lot of vacuum in the manifold, thus sucks in a fair amount of oil.

Also, check your seal near your tranny/engine... see if you have oil leakage. Also check make sure your oil drain plug is not leaking, or your oil sensor, or just about anywhere else. I get lots of oil in the catch can, but moreso from the rear main seal, which is being replaced this July.

nah, im an apprentices tech at lexus (im only 20) lol but theres no leaks coming straight from the engine at all...its all bone dry...i will look in the mani tomm after im done at work, ill bring my car in and pull the bellows tube off and shine some light in there...i pray thats it lol and yea i downshift ALL the time lol so theres the vac. in the mani so thats probly what it is....now that i think about it, i didnt notice losing oil until i start downshifting all the time....its just habit and it helps me stop in a shorter distance lol thanks guys!

At 84k the valve seals may be contributing, but I would start with the catch can part first. That oil sucking through will gunk up the combustion chambers/valves as bad as worn seals.

yea, lexus had a problem with there older engine where they put the pcv valve on the valve cover in a bad spot, and it would suck pure oil in the intake and burn it, and in doing so it got the rings stuck....it was called a spa, where we replaced the short block. i just dont want my rings to get stuck!

I don't think it gets that bad on Neons. Most of the time the oil stays in the bottom of the intake mani. If the plenum was higher than the intake ports, it might be another matter. The oil only gets sucked up when there is enough volume of air to lift it into the runners.

If you are paranoid like me...

I check my oil & coolant levels 2 to 3 times/week when I'm operating the vehicle on a regular basis.

I also give the engine bay a quick scan for anything that may catch the eye while under there.
