yet another crane 14 question

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

? um... What system? If you take the head off you have to drain the oil and coolant. If you leave the head on, you may have to replace some spilt oil.

That would be adjusting the valve lash. No need for that on Neon engines.

The lifters will bleed the oil out from spring pressure alone. Just bolt the rocker shafts on in their proper positons, and evenly work them down and you'll be fine. (that is if the cam is in the correct position) Well the lifters won't care much, but the valves may not like it.

As far as a head gasket, a Mopar OEM one will do you fine unless you're looking to bump up the compression ratio on the cheap, then remove the middle layer of the head gasket before you install a new one (I'm assuming you know never to reuse an old head gasket  ). You can also get a cometic (sp?) head gasket that's thinner and does the same thing as far as bumping up the compression ratio. If you do the above, then yes better gas is def. recommended. Although if you're getting a 14, I suggest you get the accompanying mods like I/H/E, get magnum springs at the very least, and ultimately a better intake mani. More stuff can be done to get the MOST out of the cam (i.e. P&P the head!) but this is a good starting point. Hope that helps ya.

Exactly, anything larger like the Crane 16, 18 or "bigger" and you'll need lash caps due to the cam's ramp profile; not to mention a GOOD set of aftermarket valvesprings to hold up as well. I would also recommend if you're going with the 14 that you get some type of aftermarket fuel controller like an SAFC. The 14 will make the PCM throw a rich code so you'll need something to pull fuel at idle. I forgot to mention that earlier :tardbang:  .

Actually yes you can get the cam and the SAFC Neo at Modern. I suggest you order over the phone and don't use the online pay though. Several of us have had our cards scammed for some crazy reason after doing the online pay there.

They supposedly fixed their online cart system but I wouldn't trust it. There is a huge topic about people who have had their card numbers stolen after using MPx online. Phone is the way to go!
