Magnum swap questions (plenty) please help

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Magnum swap questions (plenty) please help

Post by azzkikr37 » Mon Aug 25, 2008 10:00 pm

I currently own an 03 NGC SXT and would like to swap it or make it into magnum....
Currently my mods are :
-Iceman CAI
-60mm TB
-Long tube headers w/ full custom exhaust
-Nology wires w/ NGK iridium
I recently bought the R/T intake manifold, an MPX udp, stock R/T headers, 02 R/T PCM (which now I realize I cannot use) an r/t head and valve springs

1st question – Will my original aftermarket kirk long tube headers meant for a standard neon be sufficient or should I put the stock R/T headers OR buy new aftermarket headers meant for an R/T?

2nd – Are the R/T trannys the same as ACR? If not which one is better? Do I need the 03-04 tranny to fit my car or could I also use 00-02 ACR/RT?

3rd – What exactly comes in a head , I bought a SOHC R/T head with valve springs but is not 100% complete, I want to know what goes in it so i know what im missing plus Are all SOHC heads interchangeable, 1st and 2nd gen (including R/T) or since my car is an 03 I have to stick to 03+ heads?

4th – Is there a difference in block other than the pistons in the R/T? Are the rods that different that I would have to get one?

I will have more questions as the project progresses, any information will be helpful. I’ve been in the neon game for a while but I’m getting into the motor now so I became a member to research.
thnks

Heyyo,

Just wanted to welcome you here and give you a friendly heads up that this will probably be moved to the Motor swap section.

Why can't you use the PCM?
1st question – Will my original aftermarket kirk long tube headers meant for a standard neon be sufficient or should I put the stock R/T headers OR buy new aftermarket headers meant for an R/T?
The Kirk should be fine. I think the holes are big enough for both applications.
2nd – Are the R/T trannys the same as ACR? If not which one is better? Do I need the 03-04 tranny to fit my car or could I also use 00-02 ACR/RT?
Yes. No.
I have no idea. Yes, they're all interchangeable.
4th – Is there a difference in block other than the pistons in the R/T? Are the rods that different that I would have to get one?
The rods are different, I think, yes. But only in the durability. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Good. There have been a few topics lately about people swapping to magnum, and I'm sure there have been lots in the past. Make good use of the search function.

Also, I think you're going to need a different CAI. Pretty sure regular CAIs won't fit with the aluminum manifold. At least, I think that's why I keep seeing CAIs for magnum engines only...

Can't use the PCM because of NGC engine. Crank sensor is incompatible.

Patience, of course, is a very powerful weapon, but sometimes I start to regret that it is not a firearm.
Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.

apparently 00-02 RT PCM won't work with 03-05 years since they are NGC
