cat problems

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

cat problems

Post by TheTransporter64 » Thu Sep 11, 2008 10:55 am

So its time for inspection again and a few months ago the flex joint on my cat decided to self destruct and come apart. In light of this I recently ordered a new cat which was supposed to be direct fit to my r/t. Once I got the new cat, took it to the muffler shop and about an hour later they called me telling me that it wont fit because my stock cat has 2 O2 holes in it and the "direct fit" one only had one downstream hole. The best part of all is that their isn't even enough space between the flex joint and the cat to put another sensor hole in it. So if anyone could shed some light on to my problem it would be greatly appreciated. All I need is a new cat it doesn't have to be anything fancy just something that is either stock or slightly better. It just needs to have an upstream and downstream hole for the sensors or enough space to put one in.

there isn't space to drill?

That would be my first suggestion. If you have a place for the 02 downstream sensor, you just need to find a place to drill for the upstream sensor.

The more i deal with my car. The more I see how 'special' dcx made these cars... I really cant understand why their are so many different kinds of cats for them but there are. My problem is that i need an up stream sensor since my manifold doesn't have one on it.

so get a bung welded into your manifold for the upstream. $20 and your problem is solved. Any exhaust shop can do it. You might have to extend the harness on the o2 sensor, $2 in wire, butt connectors and heat shrink, and it's easy to do yourself.
