Explode!

So, got a question. In another post I asked about oil leaking into my number 2 plug sleeve. The metal sleeve wouldn't pound down and I continued to get some oil in there. Today, as my wife was driving home she heard a "boom" and then the engine light came on and then went off and it sounded funny. I could hear it come in the drive way. It sounds like a harley. I popped the hood and that spark plug is gone and there's an oil blast about 6" in diameter on the underside of the hood.

Did my neon just blow a piston or rod or somthing?

It's a stock 2000 with 153K miles.

The spark plug is nowhere to be found. Yes I gapped them and tightened them down. I replaced the plugs probably 8 months or more ago.

Sorry for the bad luck on that.

The only thing I can think is that it blew the plug out, threads and all. See if you can look in the hole and tell if there are threads or not?

Sorry Haksen - there's no real "damage" from an explosion. I just titled it that to get people to read it and tell me what the problem might be.

Why might it blow the spark plug out?

Had this happen but not as severe. It sounds like a harley because its only firing on three cylinders. If you still have the sleeve the plug goes into try to get it to seal again in the head and get a new set of plugs. I shot one about 1/2 an inch out of the head.

I blew a plug out of my 4.6 t-bird motor once. I threaded it back in and drove on home, never had issues with it.

Well, I guess I"ll try putting a new plug in and see how she goes.

hoefully you won't have to retap the threads. Should be fine though. Sounds like the plug got oil on it, started backing out and didn't have enough thread seated to keep it in place.

Well, I towed it in and had a helicoil put in. Everything works now. Paid $150 for them to put in a $9 part.

You should tell your wife not to drive cars after they make boom noises and start being all loud and shit. Did you have that talk already? Not Tryin to tell you how to run your life, but a $3 problem could have turned life threatening if somehow gas had come out of the cylinder and gotten on the exhaust.
