ok well i have a down pipe and 2.5" piping down the back until my big 4" outlet muffler
well i am looking into reducing the sound/noise it makes which is loud. would adding back the cat converter and installing it and say keeping same pipe size and end muffler would it reduce the noise any if at all.
im just looking to get back some gas mileage and also reduce noise.
i was also looking to get one from here but dont know which one and what type.
can someone pin point me to which one is good.

If you put the cat back, it will tame the sound some but it will still sound like ass.
I would put the cat back and add a resonator or glasspack in the mid section. I run a fart can as well, but it's quiet as hell even with a long tube header.

Well the problem is that you pretty much have straight pipe all the way down from your header, and the fart can doesn't do a whole lot to mask the sound. A cheap fix like a glasspack will make it quieter, but I would just put the cat back on

If you want better fuel mileage, a 2.25" exhaust would help out as there will be less air volume to push out the pipe. 2.5" is great if you are running at 4500-7000 rpm all day, but under "normal" conditions 4500 is all that is really needed to get the car going and cruising at hwy speeds is around the 3000 rpm mark. (Remember we're talking fuel mileage) My exhaust is the ULEV 2" and I have no problem with fuel mileage. Kinda disproves the larger exhaust get better mileage, doesn't it? I doubt I would get another 5 mpg if I went to 2.25" I might see some power gains in the 3000 and up rpm range tho!
A smaller diameter pipe will also be quieter. Actually if you kept the 2.5" mid pipe and went to 2.25" over the rear "axle" to a 2.25" muffler, you would see an improvement in mileage and sound. Prolly not what your wallet wants to hear, but in the long run your ears and wallet will thank you. You will still have a larger down/mid pipe and as the gasses cool the velocity will be maintaned a bit better as it passes through the slightly smaller pipe.
For reference, the SE muffler is actually 1.875" at the outlet. So for mileage that 2.5/4" system is letting a lot of atmospheric pressure push against the gasses comming out.

well i guess i might just do that and see where that takes me.

Unless you get a 2.5" Cat you will have to have your cat welded to the 2.5" down pipe. All I would do is have the pipes cut off it and weld the 2.5" pipe to it. That way you still get a bit better flow and it will be leaning toward the legal side by a good margin. Most aftermarket cats have the same size brick and case anyways so you will be as much ahead and most places will weld pipes on for less than what you would spend on a new 2.5" cat.
Or you could try just the glass pak.

Get rid of the fart can (I'm assuming that's what that is) and put a normal muffler on there. Those things make your car sound like something nice has a hole in it. You ever hear an old beater car with exhaust leaks going down the road, as well as having pieces hanging off of it because it's poorly maintained? That's what a "high-flow muffler" sounds like.

I put a 2 foot glasspack on my SRT-4 and it went from OMG HEAR ME ACROSS TOWN to mellowed out V8 sound.

I say keep the fart can.
You've got your stock size pipes, and a better flowing "muffler" which is where all the restriction is.

what do u mean stock size?
what size is a stock neon exhaust.
im pretty sure mines 2.5" and i thought stock was 2 inch.
idk i might be wrong.

Stock is 2.25", although some of the 2000s may have a 2" pipe. The R/Ts and ACRs come with 2.5" pipes stock.

R/T's and ACR's have 2.25" stock. SRT's too.

Oh. Well then...What about some of the early model 2nd gens? I thought they had a slightly smaller exhaust, but I can't recall a Neon with less than 2 inches.
Also, R/Ts have a 2.25 the whole way, but I'm pretty sure the SRT-4s have a narrow part around the cat.

Yes, some early 2gn's had 2" exhaust. (They are distinguishable by a different flex joint used in the downpipe/cat.)

So wait, we've all got it?

What do we have?
Early 2000my 2gn's have 2" stock. All other 2gn's have 2.25" stock.

Damn, I thought my exhaust was even more special than all the others. Oh well.

ok getting back on topic....
stock neon pipe size is 2.25" in diameter. Some upgrade for 2.5" like me, but it's not necessary. The main thing is to get rid of the stock muffler where there is a great deal of restriction. Since you have a "fart can" you have taken out the muffler and everything from the axle back.
Keep what you have. It's probably much lighterweight than a dual outlet muffler. You need all the weight reduction you can get too with the body kit and spoiler....
...It looks good though!

There are some exceptions to that rule for stock size piping. Someone, occasional demons i think, said since his car had the ULEV emission package he only has a 2" exhaust, yet he has an 01.

Yep, 2" altho I'm not sure it is ULEV, as the manifold didn't have the cat built in, unless that was a 2000 only thing. Even the SRT rear section necks down to 2" (where it couples to the midpipe)because it fit perfectly on mine, for the short time I used it. I don't think it would crush down far enough to fit if it wasn't. I guess the engineers figure the gasses have cooled enough by then.

your fart can does the same thing. You'd be spending more money for a different sound. A lot of money too from what it looks like. You'd also have to weld it to your stock pipes. There's also no guarantee on fitment either with your body kit on the back.
...Your setup is great the way you have it now! I would say spend your money elsewhere. Maybe a UDP? upgrade the brakes?

The key word there is race. Race means loudness. Usually race mufflers are only used where there are sound level restictions at the track. But the sound is only reduced by a minimum amount.
Edit: also if you search "tiny URL" the links you post won't make the thread two miles wide.
