Check engine light.

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Check engine light.

Post by slow2.0ts13 » Thu Oct 16, 2008 10:41 am

just wanted to get some feedback,
about a month ago I started messing with my exhaust to prep for my new srt exhaust in trying to undo the exhaust bolt/clamp by the left rear wheel my project was cut short.
Within that same day my comp starting throwing a code.
I didnt get it scanned because I was not too worried, figuring it was something with back pressure.
So fast foward a week and I put the srt-4 exhaust tips on with no muffler and the stock mid pipe.
It was loud and I lost a little torque, but after driving for about 750 mi the engine code dissapeared.
I know that the codes need to be reset but why else would this happen?
p.s the srt-4 mid-pipe is in now so its a little quieter and I gained some back pressure back.

Messing with the exhaust doesn't throw a code unless you pull an o2 sensor or remove the cat and leave the downstream in. Do the key dance, then check the code on the list in the sticky if it shows up.

Chances are if the CEL has gone out the code may have been cleared also, usually if there is no reoccurance of the fault after 50 starts it is cleared. anytime you get a CEL do the key dance to see what it is. If there was any sensors unplugged with the key on, it will set a CEL. If you know what you did to get a code then it is safe to reset the PCM.

Mine came on last night. Freaked me out, but it's just the power steering sensor. There goes $25 and five minutes of my day.
