so,

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

we definitely don't have enough topics on motor mounts, so heres another... :tardbang:

i know i posted one before, but this is a second different question...

i got my prothane race motor mount inserts.....i was going to install them yesterday.....i got under the hood and i put a jack and a block of wood under the oil pan, just to take the weight off of the mounts....i unbolted the mount from the motor and the frame.....i had a fit getting the insert in place, but i finally did....then i went to put the washer on, and it said in the instructions that the smaller of the two washers (9/16 i.d. and 1/2 i.d.) was for the top insert.....but the bolt wouldnt fit through...... :confused3: so i find another washer in the garage and put it on......got it all back together, and tightened it all up....well i didnt have time to do the bottom one(had to go to work)....but i did get a chance to look at its locations, it looks to be fairly tough to get to and work on without a lift......but i'm going to be at :glasses5: VIP :glasses4: today to get a front end alignment and to tire warehouse for front tires.....and my idea was to maybe ask if :glasses5: VIP :glasses4: would do it......good idea? or should i just try it myself? i wont have time to try myself before im going to :glasses5: VIP :glasses4: , so should i have them do it or no?

aside from that, having my tope mount insert in, makes a huge difference already, a little vibration, but alot less lag between the motor and the ground....

The lower mount is pretty easy to do. First step is to remove the lower belt splash shield. Then you remove the lower mount completely. The front has just the one bolt, but the rear is a two part deal. Remove the pencil strut first, then remove the main bolt. Install the inserts and reverse the above procedure to re-install. Should take you about an hour if you haven't done it before.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Lower one is cake. You don't even need to support the engine when you do it. (On the SRT anyways)

Do not have a shop do it, they will charge you an insane amount.

ok, so when i was at vip, i asked how much it'd cost for them to put it on, and they said if it doesnt take more than like 15 mins. dont worry about the charge, etc....and everything else was quoted, so they put it on in about 5 mins, as the car was already lifted....no extra charge.....if it weren't for the fact that i have very limited free time during the day, i would have just done it myself, but i had to take advantage of it already being on the lift, etc.....

anyways, its an amazing difference having the inserts....my seat feels like a magic fingers bed when i have the air on, but other than that and the vibration at idle, its great! not only is the lag between the motor and the wheels virtually gone, but any sign of wheel hop is out the window....it feels like the power is just bolted to the ground....im sure this is partially to to having two new front tires, that replaced tires that were bald due to the front end being way out of alignment from my accident, but combined, the tires and inserts made a world of difference, im very happy
