How to get more HP

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

I have a stock 1gn intake mani that would work pretty good for you. Let me know.

Does it flow TOO well for n/a motors? I know the INDY manifold flows too well and our motors will lose power.

I was considering a ghetto blaster, or homemade intake manifold, over the summer. I decided against it since it would be made of plastic and glue...
Not at all. Somewhere on the N/A section is my thread about the one I made. When I had the R/T ernie I was throwing a code for rich fuel and like one more that I can't remember at the moment. But as soon as I swapped on the ghetto no codes. And it was so smooth across the RPM band. The R/T ernie had a noticeable dip in several places. If you use the permatex plastic weld stuff it will hold up. Its got some chemicals in it that when placed in contact with the plastic the glue heats up and melts its self to the plastic. I had my ghetto blaster on for an Auto/X and then on when my clutch went south and the motor was shaking so bad that the acc. belts both jumped groves and shredded but the ghetto blaster survived with no signs of issues. Just also make sure you use ABS pipe not PVC pipe.

Yeah, I read that before when doing my research.

I have an ATX. I will probably never feel the gains from it, and i'll probably loose fuel economy.

...will it make my engine louder?

Actually if you could afford a higher stall converter for the ATX the GB intake with a 60mm TB would prolly help in the fun to drive dept., but the mileage would definately suffer. Your mileage won't be affected with just the mani and your OEM TB. You're only going to get as much air in as the TB allows. It's how the IM handles that air that's more important. With the stock TB I didn't really see but a barely noticeable gain to be honest, as the runners are basically the same, just 1gn VS 2gn style. The plenum volume is increased, depending on what you do there.

The biggest advantage of the GB is the bottleneck at the bellows mounting point is gone, if you just keep the 3" inlet. Then the 60/65mm Mustang TB can be adapted directly to the IM, which is what I currently plan on doing when I get some spare time. Driving "normally" with the 65mm TB hasn't really had much impact on fuel economy, it's just a bit harder to do. The window of throttle opening for smooth take off is much smaller.
If you shop around, wait for good deals on ebay you can get the parts for a very reasonable cost. I got the IM for $20ish and the TB for $12, about $18 shipped IIRC. Best bang for the buck. The rest depends on how well you do at cutting the runners from the plenum. A bandsaw and large disk sander with a table work quite nicely for getting them equal.

Edit: Oh yeah, will it be louder? With the stock intake piping gone and a Mustang TB, it scares the shit out of the neighors dogs when you crack the throttle. It will be louder than your exhaust if it is fairly quiet. The dogs get used to it tho.
