What type of exhaust?
I have a '00 atx. Wondering what type of exhaust would be best to replace the stock system. Not really looking to go from the manifold but possibly from the cat back. Looking for a combo of best sound and performance boost. Also willing to do dual if I would have to change the back bumper to accomodate the dual exhaust.
It all depends on what you want. Srt rear sections are loud. If you're going for performance, you want something lightweight and free flowing... and i'm also guessing legal!
I would keep your stock pipe size unless you have plans for the future of getting heavily modified and then change all the 2.25" pipes for 2.5" Since the neon pipes already flow pretty well, all you really need is an axle back system. You can get the vibrant, magnaflow, borla, cheap ebay fart can, etc. It's up to you.
Personally the cheap ebay fart can is the way I should have gone... instead I opted for 2.5" and a magnaflow dual exit muffler. but i digest...
The muffler is the most restrictive piece in the neon exhaust system. Even the r/t muffler is a better choice. Once you replace it with something better flowing; however, it will become louder. much louder. My girlfriend hates riding in my car as a result...

I definitely don't want the fartcan/compressed beehive sound you get from that. I have a cold air setup and love the sound from it. I want something to compliment that. I also like the look f the dual exhaust and plan to get ahold of a dual exhaust bumper so anything you can reccommend for that would be great.

With an ATX I would go the quieter end of the scale. 1GN DOHC (Dual outlet on passenger side)or 2GN R/T (Dual both sides)
But that's just my .02 I just think MTX's sound better with louder exhausts; the ATX's seem like they drone too much, and the CVT's in the newer models (neon replacements) would be absoultely horribly annoying with a loud muffler.

Well... plans are to find '02 front bumper, dual exhaust rear bumper (this would be an r/t model if it isn't off an srt?) paint, (black with silver racing stripes I hope) then put on the exhaust. Only thing is, I'll have a dual exhaust bumper on a single exhaust car til I can build money back up to get the exhaust setup
.
Thanks for the suggestions so far fellas.
I have never heard what a SRT sounds like at full roar so I don't know what it sounds like. If it's louder than the fart cans, I don't want it. If it sounds nice and powerful, that's my goal. Like I said, if you have a cai, that's what I'm aiming for. Not loud and annoying but sounds deep and throaty at mid to high range rpm.

Certifit sells them. $120 ish IIRC. Depending on which style taillight you like better, or what aftermarket options you like more, should be the deciding factor on the bumper year. If the funds are there.

I am aware of the tail light swap I need to do. That's no prob. This is going to be an extended project, piece by piece.
I'm not worried about having a single exhaust with a dual cutout bumper at first. I know that soon enough I'll have the holes filled.
I have checked out the bumpers on ebay but they don't look right. Here is one I found: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Car-Tru ... 06.c0.m245
I'd love to find a Chrysler front end but from what I understand, they are hard to find. I'm not really worried about it not being painted or being a different color cause like I said, I'm planning on having the whole thing repainted black and getting my stripes down it

That is the exact bumper I bought, even the same company. It fit perfect and I had no trouble bolting it right up. The only problem I found was the side marker holes, I had to cut a small piece out for the tab on the side marker lights to grab onto. I ended up using 3m tape to secure it in place, but it's just a small problem. It's totally worth it if you want the 02.
As long as you get the 02 rear bumper you don't have to change the tail lights, but the 03+ you will need the 03+ tail lights.
They chrysler front grille isn't hard to get, it's only like $30 on ebay. The emblem for the chrysler grille is $120 though, that's what make it so expensive to do the full swap.

Thanks for the info on that bumper. Looks like that's the one I'll add to my want list.
I actually wouldn't mind moving to the 03+ bumper and getting that model tail lights so that's not a problem. I wanted to change mine anyway.
As for the grill, I'm leaning towards going the Dodge way considering price.
Question regarding the rear bumper. If I can't find one with dual cutouts for a decent price, is it difficult to just cut your own out of the bumper if you can get someone skilled enough to do it and make it look good?

The thing I noticed with my '01 rear bumper is it didn't seem to hang below the crashbar enough to have the full cut out look. The '03 R/T style I got from certifit seems to be a bit lower, giving a fuller cutout. I actually told them the SXT style but they got it mixed up and I ended up with the R/T. The R/T is cheaper, so I decided to keep it. I was sorta undecided anyways.clancaster23 wrote:Question regarding the rear bumper. Still only have one pipe. May just do a passenger rear quarter exit, and use the cutouts for revese lights.
