Well I decided to look into a new coil and got a bit of a shock!

Autozone has the stock Duralast replacement for $76

Modern has two options for me, Granatelli for $58
or MSD for $70.

I'm thinking either of those will be a better option as they're less expensive than stock.

Thoughts?

This is the 1st time that I've ever heard about the "Granatelli" unit, I didn't know there was such a thing.....

Supposedly, some reports on 'The.Org' claimed that the MSD actually has a little bit less output, than the 'factory stock' unit !

There's nothing really 'wrong' with a stock unit, either....
I'd like to know more about the Granatelli, I'll have to look it up...

Erick is going to give me his stock unit, so I'll be driving up there in a few hours and tossing that on, we'll see if that fixes the problem.

I'll also be installing my newest mod while up there.

Car fixed. I tightened his spark plugs.

It figures, we all know he likes to wiggle his electrode!

The msd coil is not worth it, I've seen at least 15 people complain about them being faulty. The screamin demon coil is supposed to be better, but I can't vouch for it.

The stock coil should work fine until you get into some serious boost. The direct ignition system on our cars can handle way more than people give it credit. I've seen 300hp boosted avengers/eclipses running the same stock coil just fine. Upgrading the wires is a good idea though.

Like Erick said... I'm a dumbass.

The number 3 coil wasn't tightened down enough, so it was allowing the combustion to blow right past it into the plug tube. Melted the wire a tiny bit, and singed the tube, but once we tightened it down enough, plugged everything back in, it was all great again.

Agreed. Get some fresh plugs with new crush washers on em. The ones you have in there are pretty cooked. Wires just because the one is nasty. Get some pretty ones while you're at it.

Picked up new plugs and wires a little while ago. Soon as Powerblock is over today, I'll be outside tossing them in to see if this takes care of the issue.

Well, I tossed in the new plugs and wires, made sure the gap was correct on the new plugs, (made sure everything was tight enough) and so far so good. We'll see if it keeps up not giving me any problems in the next few weeks, though...

So, today is April 28, and I have had no issues at all since April 5. I think we're safe to say the problem is that I'm a dumbass. All fixed now.

As long as you don't get drunk, and become a naked ass, it's all good!

Been there done that... may go there again too.

When I was in college I was driving the 50 miles home in the winter without a heater.

Upon arrival discussing the situation with the family... after supper my mom... yes mom goes out and lifts the rad cap to discover NO coolant. Okay... I guess there was just enough coolant to prevent serious overheating but not enough for heat.

Ever since that I check fluids weekly.
