Exhaust piping sizes...
I have honestly searched everywhere for this answer, and I can not seem to get a solid answer. My question that I'm hoping someone has the answer to is: what's the pipe size for the '03-'05 SXT's? I just measured the '02 Neon ACR stock dual tip muffler I have and the part before it hits the muffler is 2.25" (haven't measured the tips, but I'm sure they're bigger). People have told me that the size for the ACR was 2.75"-3". I'm just wondering because if they're the same size, I'd really like to get this put on and not have it sit on my backseat anymore lol (I live in the barracks and don't have a house, so I really don't have anywhere else to put it). And regardless if I have to get an adapter or not, is a rear section easy to swap out?
Anyway, thanks for any input.. I appreciate it And I swear I used the search button!!

I believe the first year of 2GN's were 2" then everyone bumped up to 2.25" except the SRT's

No, since you have an '05 you should have 2 1/4" pipng cat back. 2" exhaust piping were only on 2000 Neons and early production '01 Neons built before 10/00 IIRC.Author Message

So my SXT is a 2" exhaust to the muffler?

Alright, that's what I was thinking. That's good to hear, I'll probably throw that rear section on this weekend. I just didn't want to jack the car, remove my muffler and find out it's smaller/bigger than the ACR rear section I got lol.asanti wrote:No, since you have an '05 you should have 2 1/4" pipng cat back. 2" exhaust piping were only on 2000 Neons and early production '01 Neons built before 10/00 IIRC.Author Message

So apparently the pipe sizes are not the same. My SXT has a 2" pipe to the muffler, while the '02 ACR Rear Section I got has a 2.25" pipe (where I'll be connecting it to my stock exhaust). I'll be installing it today, but just thought I'd let everyone know.
I'll try and remember to take pictures of everything.

All neons, except the R/T and ACR neck down to 2" at the rear section coupling. So an ACR or R/T rear section will need an adapter to fit any non R/T exhaust. Even the SRT necks down to 2".
So yes you have a 2.25" pipe untill you get to the rear. The '00 and some '01's have 2" all the way.

kevo wrote:i would suggest not buying the adaptor and investing some money in having a 2.25" piece put in place of the 2" tail end. It will really help your performance. That 2" tail end is horrible and its even found on the stock SRT pipe.
I covered most of this in another thread but here it goes again
Here is a pic of the RT exhaust at the top and the SXT/SRT tail end at the bottom.
Here is what i did. I cut the 2" tail end off and welded in a spare piece of midpipe i had laying around.
I would ask around some of the muffler shops in your area. The way i did it was rather crude as it may be better to cut just before the midpipe begins to bend down and use a piece of bent piping in its place. Still, having a new piece welded on is your best option for performance.

Re: Exhaust piping sizes...
I was curious, is the 2" the ID or OD?
