Radiator compatibility

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Radiator compatibility

Post by supermike » Tue Jan 27, 2009 8:10 pm

The radiator in my 2000 plymouth neon (mtx) has a crack on the top which leaks, so I need a new one. I'm assuming I can use one that's designated as an 03-05, or SRT-4. They aren't actually any different are they? The main thing I'm wondering about is the difference between the ATX and MTX. The ATX has fittings for a transmission cooler, right? Can I use an ATX radiator and just leave those fittings open or cap them or something? Or are there other differences?

I think it depends on if you have a single or dual fans. most Neons have single fans. SRT has dual fans, the fan module mounts to the radiator and the mounting is different between the two types. So you need to get a radiator that matches your fan type unless you change fan types when you change the radiator.

Look at the pix in this thread.

Oh ok, I'm only a single fan. And I would prefer to just use my fan over.

Yeah, you'll want to get the correct single-fan style. As far as I know, it's only available on MTX non SRT Neons.
