computer question

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

computer question

Post by TheRandom1 » Tue Feb 17, 2009 9:44 am

OK, my engine is starting to wear down, going through some oil etc, so I'm considering a rebuild.

However, I'm considering building my motor to R/T specs (DOHC, 30 more hp etc) my main question on this... is will the stock Neon SXT computer run the R/T motor? I know the compression ratio is different, etc, and I would just run an R/T computer... except that IIRC, R/T's never came with an ATX and I want to keep that.

In all reality, you don't have the ability to do a DOHC swap. If you want to gain power, get the magnum head. At least you can still bolt your manifolds to it. Your stock computer will run that just fine. If you get DOHC pistons on a magnum head, that will bump your compression. With that and a reasonable cam, your car would wake up quite a bit.
ASP - First NGC SOHC in the 13s and the 12s. First SOHC neon over 500whp. First NGC Neon on MS.

I am planning on rebuilding the motor anyways, why don't I have the ability to do a DOHC swap?

The head will bolt up but your manifolds won't, not to mention the NGC Computer doesn't know how to run the DOHC Head as it is setup for SOHC.

If you go Megasquirt you can run the DOHC. Search for more information on here, people have done it.

I don't wnat to go MS, I need to keep my car street legal for emissions, otherwise I'd just go with Erick's turbo kit...

Then you can't use the DOHC Head on your neon. The SOHC Computer cannot properly run it. You either need the DOHC Computer (1gn Neon R/T) or do Megasquirt. It also wouldn't be emissions legal anyway.

the only thing stopping you from doing a dual swap is ngc. a single computer WILL run a dual motor, you just need to swap in the correct sensors and dual cam injectors. 1gn guys have been doing it for years.
