TB Mod

Post by 04_yelneon » Mon Mar 16, 2009 7:05 pm

I just installed the mustang TB on my 04 neon, thanks to black rose racing... and it worked out great except one thing. As soon as I installed it, the car runs great and I can really feel the difference until I get to aroun 5500-5800 rpm, it bogs out and loses power for a few secs. I dont get up in that rpm range often, but if I wanted to get up and go, i cant get up there anymore. I went back and checked everything out and it all looks good. am i missing somthing???

It may be something with the NGC. I was going to be the first on the forum to put a Mustang TB on an NGC car, but then BRR wasn't able to get things made for the kits.

Around 6k is about where my car loses power as well, but I think that's normal. The sohc just doesn't make that much power past that.

You might want to try re-setting the PCM, if you haven't done this already..... and see if it helps.

The mustang TB should pull to revlimit, but then I have a ghetto IM with a 60mm+ inlet/'02 Mag cam. I just redid it. Made the TB solid mount, and swapped the 65mm for a 60mm. The 60mm is much more user freindly.
But I only got to play for a day, as my clutch shit it's self. I think the pressure plate bit it. Meh, 137,000 ish I knew it was going to happen one way or another.

The TPS values may need some tweeking. IDK if NGC would cause it to bog. You should get a cel if the MAP/TPS values are too far off, but I haven't seen anything in the threads about power loss. I ended up using the neon TPS, as the FoMoCo unit I had was giving me a "too high voltage" code.
I never used the 60/65mm TB on a standard IM, so I relly can't give much feed back there. I know the TB is not at it's full potential with the oem IM from the reveiws I've read about 60mm TB's. There is a signifgant increase in power with a matched inlet size. It is a little more than just better throttle response, because it does better at part throttle than I can ever think of doing at WOT with the 52mm TB.
I have run the 52 on the ghetto IM and there is possibly a slight gain but nothing to get exited about.

Probably shouldn't listen to anything your penis says, that guy's a dick.
Patience, of course, is a very powerful weapon, but sometimes I start to regret that it is not a firearm.
Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.
