intake/breather question

ok so i'm just browsing the web and looking at pictures of intakes, i'm curious what the rubber tube that is on some intake is for, i've seen some pictures where people remove this tube and place a little filter on the intake where it went.

my intake never came with this, only a hole to place my sensor.

Its a vent for the valve cover. So then there isn't a vacuum from the PCV valve.

yeah it sometimes looks cool if u do take it off and add a little filter on it. mine has that option on it.

I cap it, and put a breather on the back of the VC.

the better option is to run a catch can that plumbs back into the intake. That way you maintain vacuum, but don't get oil in the intake.

these guys are talking about the other line in the VC, your thinking of the PCV valve.

A lot of people who connect the breather into the intake end up with oil in there.

This still holds true if there is a lot of blow by, or the pvc valve isn't functioning properly. Oil will be forced out the air makeup hole.
Obviously fixing the engine/replacing the valve would solve this. But in the blowby case it isn't always an affordable option. The wipped 2.2 in an Omni I had, would always puke oil into the air cleaner box.
