Changed the oil last night over a Jbucky's house. No big deal. Decided to clean out the TB with some cleaner I just picked up, and as I'm there spraying it, I decided I would get the backside of the TB, but I didn't feel like pulling the thing off so I just moved the plate and started spraying.

Well with this kind of can, you get a little red straw that attaches to the nozzle of the can, and it directs a small but powerful stream of fluid right where you want it. I wanted it on the backside of the throttle plate, and that's where I got it.

Then, I go to spray again, and something goes wrong. It's spraying all over the place. The little red straw was gone.

After removing the PCM, taking the AC bracket off, the air box, throttle body, and cutting the power cord to my fan and removing that, I was finally able to get my hands in and undo the clamp for the IM end of the bellows tube. This is of course after I had driven all the way back to Sandusky in Jbucky's car to get those little clamps that doctors use to sew people up with. While I was 20 minutes away back in Sandusky, I realize I probably could've put tape on the end of a stick and not gone through all that trouble.

In any case, my fan is now sitting in my trunk, and I'm going to have to fix that within the next couple days. On top of that, the clip broke, and the pigtail isn't coming out.

Moral of the story: Take your TB off to clean it.

I told my step son the story of Easter and why it's such a big deal (I'm not religious). The only thing he could say was "WTF, are you telling me Jesus was a zombie?!?!"

Real moral of the story: If you're gonna do it, do it right

it was a interesting night.. i dont know how many times i threatened to steal / '' misplace'' his intake manifold and replace it with a plastic one.... that straw was WAY into the manifold when we finally found it lol and the stick with tape was a genious idea was just thought of a lil late lol o well you got drive my beast

If you still have the plastic TB, there should be a warning on it not to use carb cleaner.

Yep, removing it and Simple/Green Castrol Super Clean/ or similiar is the best method.

Carb cleaner can mess up the inside of a plastic TB.

This says it's designed for TBs. But maybe I should check and see if there's a warning that it'll melt plastic. Don't think so, though, pretty sure it's tame.

Yeah, now I know how to not take a fan off.

Anyway, I'm using Valvoline Heavy Duty Carb and Throttle Body Cleaner, and on the back of the can it says it's safe for oxygen sensors and catalytic converters, so I can't imagine it could do any harm to anything else.

That just means it won't plug the cat or screw the o2 sensor. Doesn't mean anything in regards to plastic.

Well, I'll check it just to make sure in the next few days.

Meh, you would have known within a few minutes. The main reason is there is a special coating in the TB that enhances airflow, and solvent based carb/TB cleaners can remove it.

This is per the FSM.

Most TB's are aluminum, but plastic is gaining popularity.
