Error Code 1299 dodge neon 2001

Post by Alex Kurdian » Tue Apr 21, 2009 8:11 pm

Hi Guys
Can someone give advice please
I'm getting the P1299 error code (vacuum) issue....the engine sounds like its coughing when its on.....I was drive alongand boom...engine warning lights went on made the car sounds terrible like coughing...

I checked what the mechanic has done and I found the throttle body hose that is connected to the throttle body unit has blown off the idiots forgot to tighten it...( you know that large ribbed hose)

The brakes also feel like the when the car is off and you depress the brake..its like hard to depress...also the car sounds like its back firing a bit...

any ideas?

Hmm. I think you're referring to the bellows tube (connects the throttle body to the intake manifold). If it blew off, put it back on. A huge vacuum leak is what you're experiencing. The code is thrown because the MAP sensor is reading more air than it expects per the TPS. If the leak is bad enough to cause a loss of brake boost, I'm surprised the car runs normally enough to even drive.

Werd!
I'm suprised it isn't bouncing off the rev limiter. The TPS position might be preventing that.

Like OB said, simple fix. (Flat blade screwdriver)
Then ream the sevice manager, and tell them you want a discount!

Good thing it didn't go full out and you had to try to stop. Could've been bad. That mechanic's forgetfulness could have cost them a pretty penny, and potentially someone's life.

Probably shouldn't listen to anything your penis says, that guy's a dick.
Patience, of course, is a very powerful weapon, but sometimes I start to regret that it is not a firearm.
Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.

I WISH that was the case! The bellows replacement to my Iceman deformed on a hot day sitting in standstill traffic with the air conditioner on. Hello rev limiter!

To the original poster, I'm also surprised that your car even runs. The reason that your brakes don't feel right is because power brakes rely on engine vacuum. Since you've got little to no engine vacuum right now, the brake booster is basically non-functional. As said before, you're very fortunate that this didn't cause an accident.
