Post by vincer20 » Thu Jun 11, 2009 7:44 pm

i want to change out my head because my spark plug sleeves keep sliding out. i can get a real good deal on a dohc assembly. i wanted to know is there any performance gains in converting? and is there any mods that need to be done?

With the proper cams/tune definately. There are/(were) lots more options till crane went to the manufacturer place in the sky.
There are some good arguments for both. Searching here and the other .org will net some good reading. Having two seperately adjustable cams is the main benefit of DOHC, and I like the lash adjuster set up better. Could have something to do with playing with the 2.2's
I'm sure a DOHC will out flow a standard SOHC, and there have been arguments weather a Magnum is better or DOHC for flow.
Do some research/reading, and decide if it is worth the effort of sourcing all the needed parts.

dual cam heads will always outflow even a magnum head. you can do a much raddical port on a dual cam. The cams are also much larger and have more adjustment possibility. The crane 14 single cam is only about the size of the crane 10 for dual cam. dual cams can have cams up to almost .500 lift and 250 degrees duration right from crane. there are performance rockers and solid lifters available for them. you will be able to make just over 200hp all motor in 2.0 litre form versus 175-180 for an all out single cam build.
