Oil LeaK

Post by Alex Kurdian » Thu Aug 20, 2009 10:05 am

Hi all
I have a 01 neon with 56,000 miles on it.....for the first time in her life I have a oil spot on the driveway
I looked under at the oil pan and it has oil on it....

Is there a common area where oil leaks in the 01 cars :banghead:
Any help will be appreciated
I drove My Neon till it "SOLD" And then bought a Mazda 3 Skyactiv

where on the oil pan is it wet??

is it around the bolt? or is it coming from where the pan meets the block?

Might wanna check the oil filter. I've seen problems there before from the filter either being to tight and misforming the seal or it being to loose.

In addition to the above...

It is common for the CPS to leak, letting oil run down the back of the block. Also check the oil sender switch.

Places mine has leaked: Both ends of the cam, oil sender, rocker cover/plug tubes. Crank seals and oil pan have not been an issue.

i once had an oil leak when the screw for oil drain is not tight enough. it might be a possible issue.

My major oil leak was from the oil pressure sensor that was just about ready to fall out of the block. I grabbed it with two fingers and it completely unscrewed in about 1 turn.

Oil leaks that have been fixed on mine recently...

-new oil pan gasket as old one was seeping... actually started dripping just before replacement

-camshaft sensor seal as old one was also seeping

-spark plug tubes reseated as oil was getting around the plugs. Replaced valve cover gasket and tube seals at same time.

Good thing you found out before it got bad. Once that oil light comes on the damage can already be done.
