ok for a full rebuild on a 2.0L with port and ploish and have the head bored to what ever size i want ( pretty much top to bottom with new pistons rods all new bearings, gaskets cam, etc.) to have it all done including labor does this sound like a good deal?

yes forged pistons idk what brand name though!, they are gonna build the engine to be able to install a min of 75 shot of nitrous ( wet shot into the injectors) a guy that races stock cars, and the guy im buyin my newused neon from is the one that will be doing the work
yes parts and labor!
only thing im not to sure of is he said u can do a port job on a stock plastic intake???? i thought i read that wasnt a good idea?

Just to clarify the block is bored, not the head.
The plastic IM can be ported, but there isn't much material to remove, so the gains from it will be minimal.
The o ring gasket retaining slot basically limits how much that can be opened up, and if you went past that, the flange would prolly fall off anyways.
The $ spent towards porting a plastic IM, IMO would be better spent on other things, that will make better power.
A ghetto blaster with a matched 60mm inlet would be a start. Or hold out for a Magnum IM.

ooo... maybe i miss understood him then, all he said was head work and bigger pistons so i was assuming .. thank you for clarifying, also i was thinking it would be smarter to do what ya said and get a mag. im or maybe gettin one thos AMM intakes.? or a indy intake off of mp.com???

An Indy would be too much, unless you are boosting it.
all_motor_mike wrote:u could just ask me u know.
a basic intake starts at 360.00 shipped (if u send me a core) i make a long and a short runner version, the long is more for naturally aspirated applications and the short runners is better for boost. i have a porting option thats 75.00 for a long runner and 50.00 for a short and i can also weld in and remove the injector humps completely too for another 40.00. gains for the long runner will be from about 3500 to redline and for the short around 4500- 4800 to redline. depending on the mods already done will dictate how much power u will gain from the intake itself. a guy just did a dyno on the org and my intake picked up i believe it was between 15-20 whp and that was with some tuning issues up top, if not for those issues it would have made probably another 5-8 whp or so. i make them to run the stock map sensor and i put 3 1/4" pipe tapped holes in it so u can install barbed fittings for brake booster, pcv, boost etc. i also make the inlet tube bigger as most people run the 60mm t-bodys so u will ahve to get a larger diameter hose to connect the manifold to the throttle body with. i think thats about it.

Magnums run around $250 to $275, or if you get really lucky, you can pick one up for $129.95, because: thepictureshowednoactuatormotor, sonooneelsebidonit.

well just so u know i got a quote to do just my bottom end, that was with wiesco 8.8 pistions, eagle rods, new bearings, knife edged crank, bored .20 over, arp head studs, checking my already built head, i think that about covers it, they wanted 2800 plus tax.... soooo 1800 kinda sounds to good to be true to me

the guy that is doing the work is like best friends with my dad! only going to charge $20 hr labor and i get the parts at his cost. ( this is also with me helping put things back together) and idk where he gets his parts but i do know he can get anything atleast %20 cheaper then me! at any the local parts stores!

That's because he has an account, and does more volume than you.
I can buy stuff under my company's name, and get stuff for a little less. If it is a vendor they use of course. Some will not sell to the public, and it takes a little sweet talking to get them to take cash.

You know how much eagle rods and wiseco's or JE's cost? Add those two together, see how much money is left from the 1800 and see if you can rebuild an engine for that much. IMO it seems a bit low even for a private build. If you just want the rods and pistons thrown in with a few new seals here and there that great, but for a proper build you're not even close.

the work is being done in his shop..lol does that count as being done @ a shop..lol but ya ur right i guess the only reason why he is chargin so little is bc he is a friend of the family and i have bout 3 cars from him in the last 2 yrs.
fixitmattman- dont know how much they cost dont even know the name of the parts he is gonna use jst said it was gonna be forged pistons? for all the seals for the engine is like $200 for the kit, he said about 300-400 for the head work( what ever that consists of)
JE pistons-$634.04 thats like $200 more then he said for the pistons
rods- $400
what else does he need to do? bc thats 1634 right there? maybe that was just a starting price? bc all he said was around 1800 so im takin it as +- a few hundred?!

If he's not doing rods, then maybe it's a bit more realistic, but it's still rather optomistic. Did he mention anything about new bearings for your rods and new mains? Std bore or overbore? Will he need to bore the block or is he just going to hone it? Even at $20 an hour there's going to be at least 250-300 for labour there, especially with the head work.
Just things to think about....

Can't fit aftermarket pistons on stock rods. Floating wrist pin vs. press fit.

by fixitmattman
If the pin is the same size it makes no difference if it floats or is pressed into the piston.

The pins are pressed into the rods. They all float in the piston. Floating pins require retaining rings in the piston. Pressed pins do not, as the rod holds them in the center.

My point being that they aren't the same size.
