my neon keeps doing this odd thing

if you just drive normal then its ok but if you put your foot down she stops revving kind of like hes hitting the rev limiter????

please help its doing my head in.

iv cleaned the map and the 2 sensors on the throttle body still doing it.

the gasket is on its way out but rebuilding the top end next month with cams and vales so it could be something to do with that.

any ideas would be great also is there any way of testing a map sensore. i had it scand but came up with nothing.

what does it do exactly, no power or does it feel like it hit a rev limiter

it feels like hitting the rev limiter really hard but could happen from as little as 2k rpm

2.7k I think is the rev limiter when the ecu goes into limp code. Are you getting a CEL? which one? you can always do the 'key dance' to get it to appear on the cluster.

thats a map problem, my 95 would do it from time to time. you would hit the gas and it sounded like it was 2 stepping. Check the sensor and all the wiring for the sensors.

Map. Mine did the same thing and turned out the pigtail and some of the wires were damaged when it was totalled.

And/or o2, but more likely the o2 sensor isn't jumping up to 5v like it should at 100 kpa.

That's funny cuz I meant MAP.

Especially since the o2 doesn't sense kpa/psi.

ill have a play with the o2 sensor next then

Well you can try it, but what Eric meant was he mistakenly said o2 sensor. IDK if a bad o2 would actually limit RPM, and you are not getting a CEL

You really need a voltmeter to check the sensor outputs. TPS/MAP

Have you checked the cat converter? It may cause something close to this if it is beginning to clog. Does it seem to bog more than just cut out?

i have no cat to get blocked

i did a volt test on the map and that should up as faulty and i did a test on the o2 today that also came up faulty so got one coming on monday.

ill keep ya all posted

Check the TPS. Voltage check with a multimeter is the easiest way.

It'll throw a code and run uber rich, but that is it. I broke mine off when I hit that possum. Its so strange thought that its in limp mode without any CEL have you tried just resetting the ECU?

Yup did all that neve came up with a del or even on fino just glad she sorted now. I can rebuild the top end now
