k this is on a honda due to the fact my neon is parked for snow season but now i wish learnt my lesson for buying a honda as a winter beater... hears the problem it keeps over heating i put three new thermostats into it new hoses (not that that part is important) new rad cap and new water pump the rad fans are workin and it over heats when you run a constant rpm on the highway or idleling at a stop sign when it over heats you grab the top rad hose its as hot as fire grab the bottom rad hose its cold as ice now the thermostat is located in the bottom rad hose also so for shits and giggles i took the thermostat out completly and and it runs at normal temputure when idleing but to cold any other time now but now both rad hoses are hot... im completly stumped now its a 1990 honda accord suggestons would be help fun and yes blowing it up/ burning it to the ground are at the top of the list right away...

have you tried flushing it out with a hose? flush the block and the radiator separately and see if either one backs up. (indicating a blockage)
have you tried a lower temp thermostat?

yup i did try a lower temp thermostat and theres no blockage do to the fact that its not over heating with no thermostat in there

Is there a bypass hose that goes into the t'stat housing to heat it up? Because if it relies solely on flow from the radiator, it isn't going to open. If there is a bypass hose, and it is blocked, or is plumbed backwards through the heater core, then that is the problem. I have no clue if this even applies, but that's my theory.

sounds like air lock

nope no air lock and no bypass hose from what iv looked apperently the coolin systems in a honda are reverse flow but someting else has been brough to my attention to do with the fans the ac fan will come on when the car is shut off but not when running as per the regulare fan seein how i assumed the fan was workin when i checked it with the car off not on i will have to re check

are you sure the thermostat is in correctly?

open the radiator cap (when engine is cold). There should be coolant up to the cap. If not, that would indicate to me a blown head gasket.
The coolant would be burning/mixing with oil. Notice any sweet smells inside the car?

i'm going to guess you need a new heater core

+1.
Without the thermostat you say it runs to cool but overheats with it installed. Is it possible to install this thermostat backwards?

Technically, but it sounds like he knows enough about what he's doing to not install it backwards.

its a very easy mistake to make tho... you set it down by accident and then just pick it up and go back at it again. i work at a garage and its happened to me like 2 times. judging by what he is saying it sounds like thats it.

if the thermostat is in right. take it out and run it with out a thermostat in there, if the car over heats there is something else wrong. ( just make sure to put the thermostat housing back on )

lol theres arrows on the themostat so you dont put it in backwards lol
