chrome, powdercoat, silver... what one should i go with...

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

chrome, powdercoat, silver... what one should i go with...

Post by dtjackten » Tue Nov 03, 2009 10:26 am

as most of u know i am doing a big build on my car over the winter, i am going to be looking at getting the valvecover, intake manifold, intake off turbo, and possibly intercooler piping....

now the thing is what color should this stuff be... options include but not limited to

chrome plating
chrome powdercoating
silver powdercoat
blue powdercoat (not alot of blue on my car though, more of a third accent)

just incase u do not know what my engine bay looks like here is a pic of the engine and the car...

I'm surprised your bellows tube doesn't inflate like a balloon.

I would say chrome or silver powdercoating. any problems with the nitrous line so close to the turbo?

na, the bellow tube will be changed over to intercooler piping this year as well... i was having a problem with the peace i had in it before coming undone.. pita... this year i will be fixing all the small little things when the install goes back together....

well the nitrous is not hooked up this past year, the bottom end was not built and could not handle it.... that is also going to be addressed this year, (i need to get a differnet line to come off the rail.. something short, or longer to move them to a new location or possibley making a plate to protect the sylionids from the heat. ) because i will be running nitrous at the local track..

EDIT: a part of me thinks that the chrome will almost be to much? but is there such a thing as to much chrome when it comes to ur engine bay?

Thats not a bad idea, i was able to mount my soloniods infront of the battery so they arnt so close to the exhuast, but granted im not turbo. In the forsale section theres a guy selling a tray that mounts infront of the battery that holds solonids and gives from heat protection.

I think if you got all the pieces you wanted chrome it would be nice, im not a fan of like a chrome oil cap and nothing else, but with the piping manifold and valve cover all chrome i think itd give a nice look. idk how dirty it would get at times tho

i vote silver powdercoating on the manifold and vc, and paint the piping blue for accent. i'd look into gates blue radiator hoses, i think that would look nice too. IMO chrome is a bit much and a pain to polish all the time. btw very clean engine bay, i love it!

funny u say about the gates blue hoses, i have looked at those... but i am not sure how they will look all together....

i have thought about changing the colors like u said, maybe the blue intercooler piping (like i already have) would look good going over the top motor mount... and then chrome or silver vc and intake man. that is a good thought... plus all my cupplings are blue as well....
