Manifold replacement

Question guys, my SOHC 2.0L engine has the shitty plastic manifold...can it be replaced with say an RT one or another better one ie for performance?

Can it be done without causing codes etc...? Does it like bolt straight up or does it require major modification?

Magnum manifold will work. The butterflies in the mag mani will require extra work to be operational.

The rt one bolts up but needs extra goodies to work properly there are a few how tos on it. As far as other ones there are box intakes like the amm one that looks badass but isn't really practicle unless your Turbo or something. Also there is always the "ghetto blaster" option which means cutting your intake apart and epoxying bigger better ports on to it, again there are a few threads based on the ghetto blasters around here too

Unless you do a full magnum swap (head, intake and exhaust manifold, and ecu), it's not worth the trouble. Installing just 1 part of the magnum setup won't do much for you.

If money isn't a concern, a full magnum swap is nice. If money is tight, a cam and exhaust would be a good option if you do the install yourself.

Thanx

It doesn't quite work that way. "Ports" are in the head. You are re using the plastic runners, and pitching the rest. The only thing that might be larger, if you go with a 60mm TB, is the inlet, if you leave it at the 3" tubing size. Most ppl reduce it to 2.5 or 2.25" (57mm) O.D. to fit the stock TB piping to it. The 2gn IM is not commonly used for GBI's. Mostly the 1gn, due to it being much easier to work with.

The runner inlet size is going to vary, depending on where the runners are cut. The shorter the runner, the smaller the inlet.

A Mag IM will still net you a little power. Not the 18 hp that a complete Mag setup may net you, but it is still a gain.

The plastic IM isn't really that bad, just the inlet is a bit restrictive.

So

So Bill what your saying is dont worry but just get a 60mm throttle body?

do the ones at Modern just bolt up without any mods?

More if you can get the Mag IM for a reasonable price, go for it.

If you are going to swap manifolds, Be sure to hook up the secondaries. IMHO its pointless to swap to it, and not use them.

Have to disagree. Even when the only thing I had was the mag manifold the difference in midrange power was noticable. Made highway driving much nicer as I could just ease into the throttle in 5th.

I did kind of generalize that a bit too much. If you can get a magnum manifold for a good price, I wouldn't pass it up.

I guess I'm just used to people thinking the intake and exhaust manifold will make their base neon perform like an r/t.

I think it's because the hp-to-$$ ratio is so much better when you go turbo. It's just much more money efficient to boost it from the beginning.
