Could I run a 12.5 to 1 ratio in my neon?
would i have to use high octane fuel? or could i just retard timing abit?
i will of course hone the cylinder and put "total seal" piston rings and ARP head studs.....

93 would be absolutely necessary. Probably retard the timing too, or find a higher octane alternative.

It's not a good idea. You'll need to run a super huge cam, and atleast 93 all the time, if not 100 unleaded. You'll also need an ECU to handle that. Looks like your NGC, so you'll have to go with a megasquirt. If you don't run race gas, you'll have to pull so much timing that the car will feel like a dog.
I just put a 12.5:1 motor in my 1gn. I haven't driven it yet, but I'm going to run e85 in it. The cam I have is stupid large, and needs to rev higher than the 7600 limitier I currently have.
10.5:1 would be good for a street car. That with a comp 400 cam, and you'd have a very strong motor for the street. It'll also run pretty decent with the stock ECU, until you can do a standalone.

Screw it... run 12.5-1 then Turbo that hog, run straight alcohol with Meth cooling and spray it... if it blows up we'll all know it dont work.
Taking one for the team ftw

I'll be running 12.5:1 on e85 with nitrous. I'll let you know how that goes.

Well with e85 you oughta be OK for the most part. I thought about doing a stock bottom Turbo build on my 2.4 Dohc with e85 but im second guessing myself now.

e85 is around 106 octane, you just have to use more of it. I'd go for it with the turbo, it's always good to use.

Maybe q little further on down the road. For now im going to keep it stock

if you want to do it, you will need a crane 14 or larger and some e85 or 100+ octane.
i ran 10.5:1 on 91 with a crane 14 and it knocked under load (pulling hills) 2-3 gallons of race gas would eliminate it when i had to go anywhere with hills.
honestly, don't mess with all motor stuff on an 03+
turbo or nothing.

so should i just buy a first gen and build n/a, cause i want an n/a car that would give turbo honda's a run for the money....i know a stock srt could but i dont want turbo, i want to be diffrent...

Hell be different by putting a small block in it.

What are you goals time slip wise. Also, do you want to do this on pump 91?

that's probably a better option, just spend the extra $500 on a shell.
u want to build a 2.4l 10.5:1 or 12:1 BIG cams, ported head, lth etc
run it on ms with e85.
unless you wanna stay single cam. i can point you in the right direction as far as porting goes and possibly sell you a cam. get on the org for a set of used pistons/rods. You could build a nice 180hp+ single cam for about 1500.

Well, I would like to learn to port and polish...if you would like to teach me oh great one..lol
I like the SOHC option...180 aint bad...ill have to "engineer" some special parts for it.... so 10 to 1 on E85?

I don't know how much engineering you'll have to do lol. I'd be weary of the CA emissions/modding laws though. Check out my progress log if that's the direction you think you're going.

oh i know all about them and the ways to get around them...
