Well, my R/T swapped 2000's Magnum actuator is not working. I know what is should sound like with the AEM intake and MPx TB. There is no change in intake sound at any rpm. Sooo, I bought a used actuator motor off of ebay thinking that was the issue before I did too much research on here. Here it is:



I decided to test the one from ebay to know how to test the one on my car. When I touched the positive to the positive side and then grounded the black wire, I just get small sparks and no "torquing" of the motor. I tried to spin the motor by hand and it will turn, but it's not easy to do. Does this mean this motor is bad or am I just testing it incorrectly?

I will get some longer wires to test the one on the car, but just want to make sure I do this right. I have a feeling the motor on the car is fine and there is a problem in the wiring or pcm. I am not entirely convinced the guy that did the swap changed pcm's.

Try soaking the ebay unit with WD40.

If the TB has a stepper motor (2000 only) and idles properly, then it is a 2000 pcm.

The PCM should have a VIN number on the sticker.
Something like this....
1B3ES76F02Dxxxxxx (2002 VIN sequence, but there should be an "F" in the 8th digit to be an R/T pcm)

The entire engine bay harness would need to be swapped also to run the MTV actuator, and the relay installed in the PDC for the MTV.

The TB is definitely a 2002, it's the same as my old ACR...

So, I guess if the motor is ok, the actuator just isn't getting a signal for some reason. If worse comes to worse I can just wire it like the normal 2.0 guys do right?

Do you have a code stored? p1289, IIRC is the MTV actuator circuit code, (Relay coil failed, or something in that circuit not completing to ground) It will not light the engine light. I have this due to there being no wiring for the MTV with the '02 R/T PCM. The relay contacts could be toast also.

No code stored...and I tried swapping the fuel pump relay, but it all checked out. I did open up the ebay actuator today at work and cleaned out a bunch of crap (looked like dark grey dirt?). It now works perfect. I will have to do some more testing on my car and get back to you. I now have a good harness to plug to my mtv motor to test it. Thanks again for the help!

You can jumper 56 and 55 (blue highlight)to see if the actuator on the IM works, or if it is getting voltage at the connector.

If that checks ok, you can connect a light between 54 and 58 (red highlight) to see if the PCM is sending a signal. Maybe even check 54 to the positive battery terminal with a test light to check the ground path.

Note: PDC layout is as viewed from underneath, so it is a mirror image of what you are looking at in the engine bay.

I was able to test the actuator on the car. The motor sounds perfect. Snapped open and then closed when I pulled the power from it. So, I guess it isn't getting a signal from the pcm. I wish I knew what the previous owner did wrong or didn't do at all. Or at least if it was the pcm or the wiring??? I guess I will trace the wires back from the actuator to see if I can figure this out.
