Loud valve ticking.

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Loud valve ticking.

Post by ragek23 » Wed Sep 01, 2010 8:22 pm

I recently got this nasty ticking in my engine. By probing around it sounds like it's coming from the head and not the low end. I pulled one spark plug at a time to make sure it wasn't a wrist pin. The FSM says that bad/dirty oil or low oil pressure could be a culprit so I changed my oil. I also went to use my scan gauge for oil pressure but I realized It doesn't pickup oil pressure :(. So I have narrowed it down to being a lash or something else in the cam shaft. I am gonna tear into the cylindar head tomorrow after work.

Any other suggestions?

Possible bad lash adjuster. Bad part is, you have to buy the whole rocker to fix it. (Unless you are lucky enough to have DOHC)

I have my stock cylinder head still all assembled so, I am gonna cannibalize it and use the lashes from that for now. I am using asanti's old setup that had a crane 14 in it for quite some time so there is no telling how old the lash's are in the head that's on my car right now.

so in other words i need this:

or this :

depending on if its the intake or exhaust. That would get quite expensive if I had to buy all the rockers.

Correct. Check Mancini Racing, maybe they still have some on their clearance, or engineering sale. I got a complete set for a very good price. I have two extra, but I can't remember which ones. I'll have to look. Im thinking intake. Ill let you know which I have. If they are what you need, I'll pass the savings along.

It was an intake lash. Thank god I had lashes from my old head. Everything is fine now.
