Crankshaft Pulley Bolt

Post by Cbussilver01es » Mon Oct 11, 2010 3:34 pm

Hey guys, I don't know where the right section to post this, but I have a huge problem...

I have a spare motor on the stand right now that I have been messing with that is getting ready to go into my car so I drive my car. The problem is that when I was trying to take the crank pulley off, the crank bolt on the motor was bent and seems to have stripped the inside threads on the crankshaft... Is there anything I can do, or do I have to buy a new crank since I cant the new bolt that I have to thread on the crankshaft, Please any help could/would greatly greatly appreciate it

try retapping the hole (srry i'm not sure what size tap to use) and then torque the bolt, if it holds you're good. If not then yeah it looks like your gonna need a new crank

M12x1.75 would be the tap needed. You are just going to have to hope it catches the right way, or you might end up with it trying to thread a half thread off. If you can get a starting tap, vs a bottoming, it should grab the threads farther in. Best of luck!

If you could drill it to a 14mm size if the tapping part fails, I would try that before replacing the crank. It is only giving up 1mm of wall thickness, and the only thing that bolt does is retain a pulley with a death grip on the crank anyways. :D
