Rad Fan Question.

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Rad Fan Question.

Post by RADARsx 2.0 » Fri Oct 29, 2010 11:29 pm

My car can be hot or cold and the rad fan kicks on ever 1-2 minutes. It even engages like I said seconds after I start the motor after it sitting all night is 0 or sub zero weather.

I am 99.9% sure that this is not suppose to happen, and think it's probably the thermostat. but just want some "free" smart secondhand opinions.

Thanks guys and galls

If there is a problem, it wouldn't be the thermostat. The thermostat only opens and closes to move coolant, it doesn't control anything other than that.

also, u know it is normal for the car to do this if you have the HVAC control in the A/C OR the defrost position...

(the car automatically kicks on the A/C compressor and the fan in the defrost position)

Oh ok. so I should just make sure I set it to the mid range of "hot and cool" and put it to like "feet" and see if it still does that....

And if so I might have an issue and if not, then I'm good to go?

Just make sure the AC isn't on, as in turn the far left knob to the right. And just put it on the floor or face vents only.

Turn everything off and see if it kicks on. If it was the thermostat the car would either not heat up or get hot really fast. It could be a temp sensor issue, but then your gauge would read strange too.

:withstupid:

With the fan switch in the off/center position, the A/C will not (should not) run.
