oil pressure sender need help fast

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

If the light is currently off....and you have oil in the car.....and the engine is not making any bad sounds....

I wouldn't worry about it. Could have just a been the system doing a check and the new sensor gave reading out of parameter for a second. Who knows. If it comes back on.....then you might have a connection problem or a faulty sensor.

ok

Post by Alex Kurdian » Wed Nov 17, 2010 12:59 am

Ok I'm pretty sure my new factory dumb switch (oil pressure) is faulty...

I unplugged the sensor but obviously left the sender in...once I get a new one I will finish the job...

I should actually just buy a oil pressure gauge....an autometer c2 would look mad!

Does the autometer sender fit straight in or do I need an adapter?

It should come with some adapters, one of which should fit.

The thread into the block is 3/8 NTP IIRC. You may want to tee it, so you still have a light/chime? if it does drop, and you are focused on the road.

There are a few good choices out there, but it is going to depend on your preference for looks, pressure range, gauge sweep, psi/Kpa/bar, etc. Autometer is good, but you will spend about $50 to $70 here for a gauge and sender.

You could go with a mechanical type, (They cost less) but if the line breaks in the cabin, you will have an ungodly mess to clean. If that route is even considered, a copper capillary tube is a must. The plastic one will melt if the exhaust heat is too high. Ask me how I know. The copper line will also need a loop in it for flex.

An electrical sender type is the best option, as most of them are very responsive. And there are none of the above worries.

If you want to keep the light in the cluster functional, then you will need:
A 3/8 by close nipple or a relatively short one
A 3/8 tee, an adapter for your sender (should come with)
And some pipe sealant that is good for oil.

All threads should be NPT, as I doubt they used anything different for export.

They do have other options, but the full sweep are going to be pricey.

The adapter plate isn't really necessary, just a little more convenient to hook up over using a tee.

Plumbing a tee isn't that bad, if the battery is removed and working from there.
