So having starting problems. Finally figured its the starter.
Advance wants $175 for a reman starter for my RT. they dont got new one.
Autozone wants $195 same reman they too dont have a new one.
my question here is not wich one do i choose but can i use the starter off of a 03 SRT-4 cause those are only $110.
couldnt find a definate answer on the search button. well LMK.

Wow, really? There was one starter that didn't work with a specific manifold or something. But at autozone, I got the starter for a 99 stratus. It was right around $100, and I would think it would fit on any just fine with how it sits, and there's multiple electrical connections, so it would work fine.

not doubting you eric but keep in mind that the r/t starter is smaller than the regular neon to clear the alum. IM.
I know the srt uses a different flywheel so i'm guessing the starter wont work on your car manny.

so wich one will work wit my RT.. theres a tight space between the manifold and starter.

personally what i would do is just buy a used one off of a member, i wouldnt pay all that for a reman.

I don't think anyone has a RT starter tho..
I might try using a regular 2.0 one.. idk if it'll work. I think the voltages is diff or something. Not positive on it tho.

it would work if it would fit between the manifold and the block, but it doesnt so dont waste your time. talk to ohnoa2.0 (ryan) i think hes got an r/t starter. (its not listed, i just know he had one)

Arrgg.
Ill see what he has.
So pretty much because of the manifold being the way it is only the specified RT starter works correct..?

correct

Ok. & I just realized that 2 posts ago when I said the thing about the voltage I was thinking bout the alternator. Lol.
Anyways I need a start like this weekend. So I guess I'm just going to have to fork up the money for one of thhose at the parts store. At least its a lifetime warranty. Gurrrrr.

i dunno if you've removed the old one yet manny but you dont have to remove the IM to get it out, just take your time and weasel it out the side, it'll work and save you some time.

Thanks. Wish I woulda known that this morning when I pulled it. I really didn't see no room for it to move so I unbolted the manifold so I could get room, but didn't completely take it off.
O well. Live & learn.

My normal '01 starter clears the Mag IM without issues.
I have the battery cable clocked differently, but that is more for my Ghetto Blaster IM.

Not really a good veiw of the clearance, but it is what the 'o1 SE starter looks like. The problem may be with the support bracket for the Mag IM.

5033133AC Starter, neon, w/rt 2001 - 2002 $153.00
5033556AB Starter, neon, 2.0l 2003 $85.75
5033556AC Starter, neon, 2.0l 2004 - 2005 $292.00
'03 lists the same starter for Magnum and standard 2.0.
Edit: Looks like the dealer smokes the competition for a
new starter vs reman. At least through '03

If your looking at having to fork out big bucks, find a electric motor repair shop. You might be surprized on the cost and turn around.
Thats a good idea for rebuilt alternators also if you can wait a day.

How can that be true when so many people are running mag intakes without changing their starter to an R/T specific one?

not sure if you caught that
i have one form an 01, but it wouldnt get to you tomorrow. ive also got a mag intake on my car and my regular 2.0 starter clears it just fine.
id say head to the dealer and pick up the 03 starter for $86

$86 for a new starter these days is a steal.
If you have more than one dealership to choose from, shop around. There are a lot of them that like to charge well over list lately.
My water pump inlet tube was quoted at $22 list at one dealer, and $16 at another. IIRC it is about $13 list. Fortunately the $16 one, is the one of two in North East OH that had them in stock.

Hey man, this happened to my old car. I had a thread on here about it as well as another forum.
viewtopic.php?t=38891
check that out. I never did figure out the problem. HOWEVER it did start once when I had a boost from a truck. So I'm assuming it's the amount of power its receiving. I'll be following your thread.

Does the engine crank and not start ??
Or are you saying that the starter spins, without engaging the flywheel ??

i got power. lights horn etc. starter isnt engaging the flywheel. im assuming i got a bad starter..? cause i hear it spin but not ingage.
00Neon RCR- i tryed that already.didnt work.
OOOOOHHHH yeah and this new starter has a third Bolt ontop of the starter thats visible when mounted.. it has a silver wire going from it to the back of the starter. i dont know what its purpose is.. does anyone know what im talking about.. if not ill take a picture of it later.

I bet that the starter solenoid got 'stuck' from sitting in the box so long, unless it was defective to begin with.
I'd try carefully rapping it with a hammer (disconnect your battery terminals first) and see if it engages afterward.

Make sure when hitting on the hammer you don't knick it up or dent it. Because they aren't going to want to take it back if it doesn't work.

Uhh lol. Ok ill try that. But either way I already went to advance & told them it doesn't ingage so they ordered me another one. New one stil on car. ill go out in a few & see if it works.
EDITED: umm.. i think i have a bad battery as well. i just went outside and turned the key and my volt gauge only reads like 11.5 volts, about 2 hours ago when I was trying to jump it to see if it would jump it read 14volts... car needs like 12.5 to start rite..?
Posted: Sat Dec 04, 2010 2:22 pm
by occasional demons
11.5 volts is plenty to crank. It might be getting drained from attempting to start. The 14 volts would be from the other car? that was jumping it.
If the voltage is dropping to say 10 or less just from spinning the starter without engaging the flywheel, then it might need a good overnight charge, or replaced.
The third bolt/wire, does it go from the solenoid to inside the starter?
If so, it is the power to the starter motor.

Should've just waited for the dealer instead of dealing with parts store reman junk...
