03 neon no fire to coil

We put an 04 engine 2.0 in 03 which threw rod and have not got it started yet. We have checked cam and crank sensor , tried new computer, fuses , battery good , getting fuel will turn engine over good but no fire to coil., also tried another coil. no hot wire to coil with key on. What els can we do? Is there something different in the wire harness on 04 engine than 03?

It cranks fine, but just doesn't fire the coil? (As in you didn't also originally swap PCM's?) The PCM needs to have the VIN/SKIM flashed at the dealer. It will lock down otherwise. Try the original PCM again. If it did not see the proper signal from the key transponder, it would not have started.

Just putting in another PCM will not work. The ASD relay is prolly not energizing, keeping the coil and injectors from getting power. Jumping power to them may not work either if the PCM has locked down. It will not let the drivers ground the coil/injectors either.

To reset the original PCM, you need to hook a battery charger to the car, and let it sit with the key on for a while. I can't recall ATM how long, but I think it is for more than a few hours. Hope that works for you.

If you have a Dodge dealer close by. try calling them or maybe even towing it there after asking them.

Get them to tow it no charge, if you have them repair it.

Did you swap the engine harness also, or did you just swap the engine? IDK if the harness is any different. I would have stuck with the '03 everything, and just put the engine in. At least you knew the '03 stuff did run the engine before it failed.

Center wire on the coil is 12 volts to ground. The two outer wires only switch ground when the PCM wants to energize/fire the coils. Not sure how you were checking the power to the coil.

Could this be the classic "mixed up the coil connector and the CPS connector"?

Just in case, the connector for the coil is the longer one with the plastic sheathing around it.

Good call. If the injectors are hot, so is the coil.

There should be 12 volts at the coil plug, and 5 volts at the CPS plug. One way to tell them apart. If they are powered.

Not yet we swapped to the origional car harness and still nothing ? The only thing we haven't checked or changed is the map senso. i have heard this coould cause problem. Havent been to dealer yet . any input is still appreciated. thanks

A bad MAP sensor won't keep it from running/starting. It just wouldn't run well.

Well we finally got it fixed. we got a new computer, had it flshed and programed to vin and we are up again . Our engine seems to be a good strong engine. a few small issues and we will be good as new. Thanks to all of you who posted coments. I feel like my son and me are now neon mechanics. :

The computer on car was bad. we tried to do it first and had to get the new one.
