I'm assembling my motor. I was just curious whether or not it is necessary to replace the rod bolts. As well head bolts. Let me know.

head bolts can be reused if they are not stretched. you can check them against a straight edge. if the threads all sit against it flat, they are good.

I don't recommend it though for as cheap as they are to buy new.

rod bolts must be replaced. they are a 1 time use item. they stretch to give the proper torque.

Thanks. That's all I needed to know.

Throttle body should get sent out tomorrow. It's storming like a mofo here right now. I'll pm a tracking number too!

You sure you can reuse head bolts the ones I got from felpro last week were torque to yeild type bolts that can only be used once.

Those are "aftermarket". I'm using factory/oem ones. They were only ever torqued once at factory.

I am positive. the chrysler fsm says so and gives the procedure for checking them for stretch.

and thanks adam. i'll let you know when it shows up.

As long as a bolt hasn't yielded, it's still good.

Cool. Interesting think anyone would want some OEM head bolts then. LOL

But so are the head bolts. You basically contradicted yourself. TTY means they both stretch, it's just a matter if they recover from it. To me, if it shows signs of being stretched, it failed in the assy. It wasn't really clamping properly. It no longer was trying to pull back, therefore not holding as well.

For $28 for Felpro, just replace them. (head bolts)

My rule of thumb, if it has an aluminum head, the bolts are one time use!
I had a bad experience reusing 2.2 T2 headbolts. Everyone said the same thing, if there not stretched reuse them. For what it costs for head bolts just change them for fresh new ones....
